    That's...new.

Normally, it's "I'm going to save money not buying GI this year to spend at Rev instead"...you know, kind of like saving money to spend at a local independent brewery instead of a corporate conglomerate.

But saving money to spend at a corporate conglomerate instead of a local independent brewery...:ok_hand:

I did the same, tried most of the variants from last year and Loadstar was probably the sweetest one there. Although now that I think about it most of them were on the sweeter end. I'm bummed I missed Loadstar on tap if it was so good!

Eh? DL isn't in my fall/winter budget, anyways. So I'm saving money by not buying that from 3F... and instead buying the regular GI and Rev purchases I make every fall/winter...

Didn't think this was super complicated. I can spend money on both GI and Rev...
Sorry my purchasing habits offend you. I'll try not to buy beer I like in the future, all for the sake of the Sabtos opinion that I don't give a shit about. :ok_hand:

I'm not going to lie, I've actually been a fan of FVM and have had bottles at shares of the past 3 years '17-'19. I never had it in Bourbon barrels, just the Sauternes barrels. I still think the adjuncts work very well adn it is still a very tasty beer.

Is anyone excited for 2-Year FVM? I think that might be a Top-5 variant I am hoping to pull. If anyone gets it and wants to trade, keep me in mind.

I don't see how 2 years in a glorified wine barrel while the adjuncts degrade a further year will help when everyone talks about how FVM falls off. I would be interested to compare it to 2019 FVM as it would be that plus an extra year, right?

Barrel aged beers are adjuncted post aging, I believe.

I will agree that 19 FVM was pretty good, the adjuncts worked well. 17 was just terrible.

If they had snagged a few more cognac barrels to use with FVM, that would be my #1 variant pick. 16 was awesome (yeah, I know it was Armagnac). I doubt 2 year Sauternes gets back to that, the spirit has a lower ABV/higher sweetness, probably doesn't balance as well.

You are so ridiculously emotional. Good lord.
I actually enjoyed Loadstar far more than Rrari, and found Rrari to be much sweeter and thinner, but again that was all on draft last year. Wonder how they both diverged if anyone did a side by side months later.
Going to maintain my previous statements that 17 was delicious. I just think the drop off between 2016 and 17 was so drastic, with 16 being absolutely stellar, that it stigmatized FVM from then on. Any time more coffee is added to DL, it's for the better. It is a bittering agent after all.

Haha. How do you read emotions through text on a screen? You should be making a bunch of money if you can do that.

Not emotional. You were a bit of a smartass, so I was a bit of a smartass back. No emotion necessary.

Agreed on the Loadstar, at least when it was on draft. Was easily one of my favs of the day, and I'm pretty sure I had just about all of the variants considering how empty it was when the rain stopped.

I think rye barrel was my absolute favorite of the variants from last year, from the bottle, but I think I've only had 3 or 4 of them. It was really, really good out of the bottle, and most our share thought the same, though it wasn't that memorable on tap. Although I do love some rye barrel... so that may be a bit biased.

Plenty of DLD packages still available so anyone who questioned whether it was flippers/DL bottles or the fest that drives this event can safely say people go for the fest.

It should have never been in doubt that it was the fest, honestly.

Yeah I think the flip market on Dark Lord variants is not what it once was. Some of them you can only sell for $80-100. Handjee can barely pull $300 these days. With the in-between variants going for $150-250. It makes flipping not worth the effort.

Flippers probably still sitting on variants of vintage from the last release that they thought they'd be moving at a quick premium. Should learn to drink them instead.

I wonder if this will impact sales of tickets next in person DLD. if you are being forced to purchase 5 bottles of something at at a price the majority of people no longer value as that much, will they sell out? And would this give the added benefit of more DL variants on draft the following year?

They really need to think about going all in on ALL barrel aged variants for the festival, and either reducing production volume of DL in general, or putting it in 12 ounce bottles/cans for at least regional or limited distro.

People aren't dying to drink or even share a bomber of regular DL anymore, and haven't been for a while.

I wish they would do a variant sampling ticketed event before or after DLD like GI Clybourn would do on Black Friday with the new BCBS variants.
