In terms of the rivalry between brothers, I kind of have a soft spot for Mikkeller as his bars in Copenhagen are awesome and I appreciate what he has done for the beer scene in that city and that country. IMO both of them are primarily recipe makers and marketers. Neither are really brewers. I'm not sure Jeppe could even lift a standard 44# hop bag. Both have done a great job of carving a niche within the industry by finding good contract partners. Jeppe using Two Roads for the hoppy beers given Two Roads decent/scaled selection of hops (obviously aided by working with Sean Lawson) and using Westbrook (Mexican Cake) for the stouts. Mikkeller using De Proef. Both of them have stayed relevant through the years through collaboration (Evil Twin) and festivals (MIkkeller through CBC). However, I don't think either is really making great beer. The novelty that they both once thrived on is now everywhere.

The fact that one may be licensing their brand out speaks to the fact that they're far removed from the actual beer IMO and focused on being a brand first.

ETNYC is definitely cranking out beautiful beer across a variety of styles and other fun beverages.

That's good to know, though there are at least a half dozen breweries in Brooklyn alone that I would want to visit before setting foot at Evil Twin.

I was not a huge fan of the contract brewed Evil Twin stuff, but everything I have had from the new brewery has been pretty tasty.

fine but I only count 2 (maybe 3 with Finback BK a thing) and 1 of those (Grimm) is on the way.

Your history is quite off here. Firstly, Imperial Biscotti Break and Even More Jesus were being brewed via Westbrook well before the latter brewed their first batch of Mexican Cake. Secondly, Evil Twin was brewing Falco, Bikini Beer, Molotov Cocktail, Molotov Light, ET al hoppy beer at Two Roads years before Lawson’s Finest Liquids partnered with Two Roads to produce Sip of Sunshine. To allude that Evil Twin’s success leans on their contract partners is largely false. Lastly, I’ve watched Jeppe unpack an entire pallet of hop boxes (44lbs each) onto shelving. You’d be quite surprised at how involved Jeppe is at the Ridgewood brewery.

I literally just made a profile on beer advocate to be able to tell you, that after 10 years of reading stuff by keyboard warriors like yourself about me and my company, that are often grossly inaccurate, your statement here must be the dumbest, most inaccurate and misleading shit I have ever read. I get it, you are a Mikkeller fanboy, so you think defending him makes you cool and maybe even makes him like you. Cool enough.

To compare the 2 of us though is simply so outrageously stupid and hilarious I don't even know where to start. But just in case you are interested (not that I count on it) lets get one thing straight: I own 100% of my company and have have paid every single dime to build my brewery, Mikkel sold what I have heard is close to 50% to private equity and most of his bars/breweries are either owned or co-owned by others. I live in NY where my brewery is located and I am deeply involved in every single beer coming out of there. Mikkel has visited "his" brewery (that he had 0% ownership in) 2-3 times over the last 2,5 years. To say that I'm far removed from my beers I don't even want to comment on because it makes you sound like Donald Trump at a political debate: Nothing but lies.

I will use my profile here on beer advocate for this one and only comment and wont be back. Only because I feel I have to do you this favor and tell you what a misleading, inaccurate and right out lying dumbass you are.

    Peace out!

    Jeppe

I don't care at all if this fraternal drama is entirely made up for craft beer fanboys to guzzle up in-between their latest frozen Slushee, this is glorious lol. Make this story into an 8-part Netflix miniseries and inject it directly into my veins, please.

If this is legit (and you can't convince me that it isn't), the fact that Jeppe was monitoring this thread about his brother's business failing only to jump in when someone questions his ability to toss around the 'ol bag of hops is just amazing.

Also possible (and my guess) that he was told about the thread, rather than actively monitoring it. Solid gold grab the popcorn and settle in thread in any event.

Another vote for the @William_Navidson version. That one will translate to the big screen better when "Broderlig fejde" directed by Christopher Nolan is released.

Manufactured loathing or real, I have always personally leaned ET (having had no knowledge of the ownership of either). I just consider ET to be more NYC, and biscotti was a major obsession of mine for several years. Plus torst. Yet to visit the brewery. @BierKonig we could car pool down together

Man, I was thinking, "What's the most ridiculous Evil Twin beer out there?" so I could demand you give Jeppe some credit, insisting that nobody would contract brew that BS on their own, but the most outrageous evil twin beer 5 years ago isn't nearly as over the top anymore. Jeppe is the original beer trend setter.

Hmm, you may be right, but I think Mexican Cake was their first anniversary beer and they cite Dec. 2011 as the first brew on their website. Meanwhile Eviltwin.dk cites March 2012 as some kind of relevant date for EMJ/IBB. It's close enough to go either way, but doesn't seem "well before."

I think it's a stretch to say you ticked off anyone. I think it's more likely you said something as fact that was pretty easily refuted or, at the very least, disagreed with and got called out for it. People tend to have discussions here and disagreement is a big part of what makes beer advocate such a fun thing to take part in.

The first batch was brewed in 2011. The name was changed in 2012 from Biscotti Break to Imperial Biscotti Break. The first logged review of Biscotti published on here is dated August 2011.

Sure, but it seems the first batch was brewed in Denmark that summer as well. It showed up at a lot of US bars around August so at most we're nitpicking 3-4 months to be dramatic... both of us I guess. It's neat to look at some of those early check ins though and see so many bars that continue to be great, RIP Rattle n Hum.

This thread is also fun for looking back on beers that were relatively decent ISOs. Shout out to Garden Gourmet in the Bronx and Key Food on 145th that always had great selections. I think I found my first Mikkeller Shakes at these spots.

Believe that would be the initial batches of "Bozo Beer," even though contracted thru Westbrook, Jeppe intentionally designed this to mock "the excesses of the experimental brewing craze"
