Like some people have said go to a beer store where they sell single bottles, cost per bottle can be between $1.50 to $2.00 per bottle. Some beer stores also have growlers ( draft beer you can take home in your own bottle ) and will give you free samples of their growler menu. Not bad to sample some different brews. Also ck Beer Advocate reviews and try highly rated beers. Probably won't be disappointed. Another venue are beer fests. Put down $35 - $40 bucks and try 2 oz. samples of dozens of beers. Talk to brewery representatives to find out what you might be looking for. I like 22 oz. bottles sometimes but found that they are not as cost effective as 6-packs are. But there are some really good beer in 22 oz. bottles that you can get for $5 - $6 bucks. Arrogant Bastard, Bear Republic beers, some Stone IPA, Southern Tier, and many more! Good luck. Just remember too it's better to Drink Less But Better. It's not how much you drink but the QUALITY of the beer you drink! Beer on!

Find a few stores near you doing free tastings and you could try a bunch of beers every week. Never buy anything.

Beer festivals work great, mixed sixers help you try all the stuff you can get locally, and craft bars that offer flights are really a help. For the rares I'd suggest starting a tasting group so each person could bring one bottle and save some cash.

Does your local bottle shop bring in breweries to sample? That is gold to a ticker. Try a bunch of stuff and often there is a deal on growler fills or bottles.

If you have friends that are interested in craft beer as well, look into variety packs. Most of them seem to fall in the $20 range, so find two other pals, spend $7 a pop or so divvying them up, and with $22ish of investment you'll have tried a dozen new beers. Better than most make your own six pack prices I'd imagine.

Just go to a beer festival and you can try a ton of stuff. Take your time with things and don't bother chasing the whales. Just enjoy what you're drinking and try to understand it before jumping in head first. There's no rush.

not so much the never-buy-anything, but bottle shops that do tastings and events is the way to go. you can get some free samples and a mix six while youre at it

I just started homebrewing last month so I've been interested in branching out from my IPA comfort zone as of late. These days I'll get mix-match 6 packs from the store (admittedly, Wisconsin is a pretty good place to do this) and get tasters/flights at brewpubs and bars.

Not sure if I can rustle enough people up to do a bottleshare though.

Should I just be that creepy guy that tries to make friends with all the guys in the beer section? :astonished:

Mixed sixers, Beer fests, 22oz bottles, always keep an eye on what is on sale or going out of season. Another thing to consider would be homebrewing. You can make alot of different styles at a reasonable price and its usually fun.

We have a steady turnout of around 10 people in our tasting group. All I did was put a thread in the regional section just as you did, is yours asking just to join a group or are you trying to start one?
