Highly recommend the brewery at Bacchus in New Paltz. Excellent sours. Arrowwood has its "outpost" in town as well. If I remember correctly, Foreign Object is also in town -- they make some decent to very good german style beers and NEIPAS. Also, has anyone heard anything about Zeus brewing in Poughkeepsie?

Bacchus went through a bit of a rough period after everyone left to start HVB, but I agree, they're back to being fantastic. No outdoor seating, though, which is why I hadn't mentioned them.

Zeus is awesome. Stunningly beautiful taproom, you feel like you're in some 1940s art deco hotel bar in Manhattan, and they do have rooftop seating though it may have closed for the year. Very good beers too across a good variety of styles.

That last sentence is also true of King's Court if OP ends up in Poughkeepsie.

I went to Zeus when they first opened and it made for a really nice date night with my wife. Like Igaveyoupower said, the inside is really beautiful. The beers were all good. Nothing amazing, but they were all pretty enjoyable. My favorite was a stout that I haven't seen since. Food was good too.

Their cans usually hit all the local bottle shops if you're in the area. I've seen them in both Half Time and Thrifty Beverages. I bought their dunkel a few weeks back, and thought it was good although I'll be the first to admit that I'm not sure what a proper dunkel is supposed to taste like.

If you stop by, there's a meadery that opened right next to them called Slate Point Meadery. I haven't been there yet, but I've been meaning to next time I'm on main street POK.

On Bacchus, I usually dig their beers but the last time I went their taps weren't working.

So we did Bacchus the last time we were in the area - about two years ago. I thought the beers were just ok despite having enticing-sounding sour options. They had an outdoor back patio area and some good beers from other breweries and we had a nice time, but I wouldn't have prioritized it based on that experience.

Can you drink at Foreign Objects? Do I assume their NEIPAs are less good than the other breweries we talked about already? I've had a few, and they've been solid but nothing mindblowing.

We'll be in Poughkeepsie already for Plan Bee. Where do Zeus/Bacchus/Kings Court rank vs the others we've discussed (for sours, IPAs, stouts, farmhouse)? Sounds like they won't be musts, really. I'm gonna need to narrow this list quite a bit haha

    Thanks!!!

This is the route for the larger 3-4 day trip, as currently planned (adding in Two Villains and Tin Barn near D96 and Drowned Lands).

If anyone has thoughts on other can't-miss options while I'm in CT or NYC, I'd love to hear them. I realize Other Half is nearby, but I've been several times already. I've done Threes, Folksbier, Transmitter, Mikkeler NYC (RIP), KCBC, Interboro, Cap Lawrence and probably a few others in the area already as well.I know nothing about New England Brewing other than high ratings for NEIPA. Curious how they stack up to D96 and others mentioned here.

I just looked for FO in New Paltz and I have no idea what that address is TBH. Their brewery was supposed to open this year in Monroe, but it hasn't happened yet and they've gone oddly silent on social media too.

Zeus and Kings Court are very good, but for sure not 'can't miss' (at least not yet in their existence) so I wouldn't prioritize either over what you currently have.

Your itinerary looks absolutely killer, and I think you've got every base covered that you need as far as NY is concerned.

RE NEBCO: That's one of the big OG's in this area of the world. Gandhi Bot (now just G-Bot) was the first DIPA I ever tried, and I would imagine that's true for a lot of people on this forum. It's still great, though more in the way that, like, Focal Banger is than a NEIPA. Fuzzy Baby Ducks (and other ducks iterations) are crisper, more bitter than NEIPAs but every bit as tropical, juicy and delicious. They also do extremely, extremely well with stouts and sours and every style really. I cherish those guys.

Also right near there is Counterweight, started by an ex-NEBCO dude, and they've got the NEIPA game down (among other things) so those two would round out your trip well.

Since you're going to the main Arrowood location not the outpost, I would definitely plug Westwind since it's literally across the street - despite it being a cidery:

    - great cider
    - great guest ciders
    - great guest beers; they're friendly with Dan Suarez so almost always have a couple of his beers on tap and sometimes bottles too
    - the owner is Italian and they have a permanent outdoor pizza oven; fantastic pizza and their other food options great as well
    - generally a beautiful space

Regarding your itinerary, Hudson Valley is pick-up only...no on-site consumption..Obercreek would make for a nice substitute...in the same area...looks like a great trip!

Sorry. Obercreek was supposed to still be in there between PB and HV (I figured HV was basically on my route (adds 10 min driving) so I'd grab cans. Thanks for reminding me tho).

+1 Counterweight. D96's brewer is also a NEBCO alum. They're one of the OGs for sure.

I recently came back from Fox Farm and have been gushing about them in various BA threads for the past week. They're about an hour east of OEC and only offering stuff to-go.

@IGaveYouPower i don’t know what’s going on with Foreign Objects. Haven’t even really seen their cans around since back when the pandemic started. Truth be told, I’m a fan of theirs, but, I’m guessing, their cans tend to sit around because of pricing and lack of dating on the cans. A lot of their IPAs go for $20 and the DIPAs in the $22-24 range around here.

Damn, that's interesting. They've only been around, what, two years at most? I feel like that's quick to already be selling, and I'd be very curious WHO they're selling to.

This is what gives me pause about buying them. Their can art is indistinguishable (but still unique and awesome) so I can't by sight remember, even vaguely, when a particular can dropped and then the no dating makes them a non-buy.

The term that I read was "ownership transition", lol...anyway, without any first hand knowledge, I speculate they are having money issues...new taproom in place, and then Covid hits...just a guess

I realize I'm veering away from beer here, but since you guys seem to know the area, any recommendations for non-beer-related outdoor activities along the way (like, for when the breweries aren't open yet!)? We like botanical/sculpture gardens, street art, hiking, random unique things...

    Thanks!

Oh dude cool shit is ALL over the HV. Sculpture Parks you've got Storm King (which you'll be driving right by, and is massive) and Opus 40 is North of Kingston, Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown (close to Two Villains) and the Rockefeller Estate is near there too. DIA Beacon is one of the coolest museums in the Northeast, and while it's inside, it's massive and cavernous and easy to not be close to anyone at all.

There's also Chuan Yeng Monastery outside Beacon, Northgate/Cornish Estate a bit south of Beacon (cool short hike to the ruins of an old estate).

I could keep going but your trip is gonna be nuts packed as it is haha.

Storm King would definitely second. And love Rockefeller.

I live near Ward Pound Ridge and Mountain Lakes state parks - would highly rec both and you won't be too far away from either

Just be aware with Storm King that they are reservation-only right now and have often been selling days out well in advance, so plan ahead with that.

There are countless great hikes too, and some other cool walking stuff like the Croton Aqueduct Trail and Croton Dam.

Warning you against Kaaterskill Falls, the lower trail is closed and it was close to impossible to get a spot at the top of the falls.
