My boss basically told me if I wanted a day off I'd have to request it. WTF? Anyway what good is working at 6 if you're gonna piss the rest of the day away at home? So I pissed it away outside. I think I earned this. Picked up a handful of Transient stuff. Shaping up to be a nice Halloween for once. Shame nobody will be trick or treating most likely.

Incarnation from Tradewinds Brewing in Riverhead, NY (LI), a Pumpkin Ale. Hits all the right notes, unlike Linus:

Stay Safe, Happy Halloween, Socially Distance (unlike these two), and Sláinte, mo chairde.

Lots of improv on this dinner prep; wasn't quite enough to split three ways, so I fried a banana with cinnamon and honey (unpictured). Sweet and dessert-like, but delicious.

Paired the prep work with a Southern Delight.

    Snow is still falling.

    Fireplace is going.

    Cozy as fuck in here.

I'm a 16 oz can of Helles Lager type of dude and wouldn't normally reach for a high abv stout, but this bottle of Bitches Brew has been in my cellar winking at me for well over a year now.

I regret nothing, this beer is great.

Well, decided to do a quick blind tasting while we watch Halloween. Some fresh On the Wings of Armageddon (OTWOA) and some Double Jack. The GF poured, and I think the lightly hazed one in the larger glass is OTWOA off the bat, but I'm not 100% sure.

There's an orange/tangerine citrusy aspect to the beer in the smaller DFH glass, while the larger glass is a little more herbal and something that is reminding me of lemon. Both have a hint of sweetness and there's a little booze from the smaller glass.

There's a bit of dank with herbal and grapefruit pith in the flavors from the larger glass. Mildly sweet opening ends fairly dry. The other, smaller glass starts a little sweeter, but turns a little more bitter - with more citrus throughout. It's a tad harsher on the palate with some heat and a cleaner, less soft feel.

The smaller glass seems a better overall IPA by a slight margin, but I'm liking the more approachable feel of the larger glass at this moment. Nothing in the profiles made me change my mind as to which beer was in which glass.

So, which did I like? The GF tells me I was correct in my guesses, and that the smaller glass is Double Jack and the larger glass holds OTWOA. Cheers!

Jr. Z told me he had made some “minor” adjustments to our Halloween Village while I was away...now there is a giant thirsty gator bellying up to the witches’ pub for a beer:

I had this last week and thought it was a somewhat unique but still pretty awesome WCIPA by Cloudwater, which is pretty much what they do.

Seems like a good idea for a Friday evening. The After Sesh is a little light for the reposado, but the flavors meld nicely.

Happy Friday BA's! Absolutely gorgeous weather in Texas today and this past week. Clear skies with highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's. The patios are busy here in SA with this weather. Cool weather calls for a great barleywine and this one bottled a year ago from Freetail nails it. Clocking in at 88 IBUs it hits the spot. If you love Brown Shugga, you'd love this. Great prickly carbonation that lasts a long time and even laces the glass.

    Cantillon (Belgium) - Fou' Foune

I was a little disappointed by the vintage 2017 Fou' Foune I had just a few weeks ago, which seemed much too acidic to me while also lacking an expressive apricot character and overall balance, so I was very curious to try this fresh in comparison. And my god, what a difference it makes, as this is everything that I hoped for, reinforcing my belief that fruited Lambic is not suitable for aging and should be enjoyed as fresh as possible.
