I know nothing, but if JJ does not pick up a "brewery", is not said brewery a free agent? Sidebar, I thought Hoensteins (sp) had Founders?

WTF. Founders, Great Divide are "possible" brands that may disappear. I sure hope that doesn't happen.

Don't start the Rumor mill. Stop it now

Before anyone else says something, some one with TRUE knowledge please pipe in. Specifically regarding if someone chooses to no longer carry a brewery, can that brewery sign on with someone else and still distribute

Looks like we'll all have to start drinking more local beer. If this is true, and those breweries do leave that would be a shame. However, there would be a silver lining in that it would free of tap and shelf space for all of the new local breweries that are opening up every month.

Way to get that rumor mill ramped-up into overdrive.

Folks, relax. If you trusted your wholesalers to handle their own business affairs before this development, why should you fail to maintain that sense of trust now?

Alternately, go tap one of your uncles with deep pockets* (and a clean criminal record) and start your own wholesale distributorship. Pick up those breweries and brands that you know you'd like to distribute hereabouts (along with any free agents --AHEM! New Glarus? Dream on--), hire a few trained Cicerone-level servers, a half-dozen route sales managers, a half-dozen office staff/actuarial/payroll types, a half-dozen warehouse fulfillment people, and another half-dozen or so certified truck drivers, and get to work supplying the Twin Cities with all of these brands you're afeared will be leaving as the **** crows for the third time before dawn . . . good grief.

*It shouldn't cost more than a few million dollars up-front if you play your cards right.

Thank you. We're suddenly going to have a mass exodus of heavy selling breweries (several of which have been in MN for years) because of some pre-existing law? What a ridiculous rumor.

And I'm pretty sure the reason New Glarus is not in MN is not because of a $10,000 fee.

What a ridiculous statement. You need to incorporate more facts into your posts. Fact: Lifeofbrian is responsible for the dissemination of all the rumors posted in this forum.

LoB has gone rouge! He must have hacked Ungertaker's account and the mariohategoomba account was just created today. He must be hatching some sort of plan to lure us all out to Liberty Village... Or he and the Superfriends have reassembled All-Saints and are ready to swoop in and save us all from certain beer doom!

    Here's an email from Avery;
"Thanks so much for reaching out. We really appreciate all your support.
I'm sorry to say that it's true, we will be pulling out of the market for a little bit. It's not that we don't see a viable option for distribution, it's that we just don't have the beer to send you guys right now. We're currently working to build a new facility, after that's up and running around summer 2014 we'll be able to support your drinkers the right way and we'll be back in the market with fresh beer and plenty of support!"

As for Founders and Southern Tier, they aren't even represented in MN by J.J. Taylor or Chisago Lakes, so I have NO idea how they were mixed into this conversation.

May the Schwartz be with you

This thread exhibits the kind of panic mentality that makes me think the end of the world on 12/21 will be triggered by rumors of a beer shortage.

Did anyone see 2012 Mephistopheles in TC yet? I'd love to grab one to add to the vertical before Avery is gone.

You need to talk to people who know the law better.

For beer to be imported into MN either the brewer or the importer/wholesaler need to have a Malt Beverage Importers license which costs about $10k. If the brewer gets it this allows them to sell beer to wholesalers in MN who cannot import beer themselves (many beer wholesalers do not have this license, JJ Taylor does). If the Wholesaler buys the license it allows them to buy beer from any supplier as long as they pay the excise tax (normally the brweers pay this).
