And by 'shut out' you mean you got over 100oz of amazing beer, just not the exact gray whales you were hoping for.

Evening session is similar. This year he's changing it slightly be releasing things at various times during the day. But the morning was to have more at it. Last year he had less BCBS for example but more of other things at the evening session like KBS, Monster Barleywine, etc.

I do both and am on my way there right now for the evening session/beer tasting. I like the easter egg hunt style, I never get anything insane but I did manage a 2010 Plead the 5th today and a great looking Gueuze but as mentioned I like doing it to hang with other beer geeks and chat in line and see what we get. I actually traded off a couple items in line with others, just wish I had pushed a bit more to land that KBS someone had as I've never had it, but it as a 2010 and I hear that drops off insanely fast.

It was a lot smoother and more spread out this year. Thanks Ed!

Also, thanks for the Nate Dog!

Edit: to clarify- I was there between 2:15 and 3:30, and I knew I wouldn't be finding any rare beers at that time of day.

Don't you just love first world problems? Someone puts on a great event each year and the complaints still come in.

Thanks Ed for another great year of Beer Geek Christmas!

I'd like to echo the positive reviews. I would have been happy with the Westy's, but a few additional nice finds in addition to some canoli's made my day by 8:15am.

Oh, and to the guy from Chaska who recommended Aurelia's in EP; good call! Ordered takeout from there tonight and it was awesome!

I walked in at 5:10pm for the evening session and was able to land a four pack of Furious and 2 Westy 12!!!

Love the Furious, been longing to try Westy. Thanks for making it possible Ed and everyone at Heritage!

Any crazy finds during the evening session? Curious if the evening was different than the morning.

those were raffled off, Ed was telling the raffle winners to make a beeline to the back to grab their booty.

Picked up a Westy single at 8 tonight. Seems like they broke more up into singles for the evening session. Really happy I got to grab one.

A very well ran event. Besides the midget running the register (sorry little person), everything was first class. I showed up right at 8 due to having other obligations (freakin kid) and was still able to find tasties on the shelf. Not a major tasty, but definitely tasty beers.
Big props to Ed and crew for running a very classy,A+, hassle free event. It was great to see some friends, great to share some generousity (I'm talking to the guy who really wanted the Bell's tulip in my hand and I was torn between the larger of the two that I gave to, who was by all means appreciative) meet some new guys, and generally have a great time at 8 in the morning.

Westy singles? I got there for the 5 opening and didn't notice that. I would of gladly paid for one bottle. I did manage to snag singles of 2008 BCBS, 2005 Brooklyn BCS, 2011 Central Waters Brewer's Reserve BBS, and 2012 BCBS. It will be quite interesting to see what a 7 year old Stout tastes like. It was packed but the scavenger hunt was fun and it was great having free NateDogs when their usually 5$ each.

Glad everyone had a good time.

I didn't go this year, because I'm crotchety, and the idea of waiting in line at a liquor store in the cold was not appealing to me.

But the first few years I went were awesome!

Ed's a great guy and I definitely recommend dropping by Heritage when you're nearby.

I was the one who recommended Aurelia's, good food there. Glad to hear you liked it.
Fun event and and had fun talking with others before the event. Got a pack of Westy and few other good finds. Good event, excited to see it at a larger venue.

I left the event extremely happy (thanks for hiding that gem near the 40's), but a few other ideas to consider:

-Allow the first person in line to choose 1 limited item, and that's it. Then the following person gets a shot at something, and so on. It would reward the time spent in line, and prevent someone walking out with a ton of the limiited stuff (and leaving others who showed up early with nohting.)

-Allow someone to draw from a box of tickets when checking out. The random chance could give you anything, and then you have to decide on the spot if you want it or not

There was a bottle of Surly Four, I would have been really happy finding that bottle . Four was the beer that I have wanted the most out of what was there. Also, I found a bottle of Cantillon Classic Gueuze, I handed that off to somebody else.
