Michael, if you personally keep buying it they will continue making it.

And then we non-New Yorkers will get some too!

    Cheers!

I'm guessing that Sam Adams Lager market penetration in NY is low, so the risk of failure of the new recipe is minimized. There is strong competition from amber lagers by Brooklyn and Yuengling, but rest in peace New Amsterdam. The formula change might not be a big deal. Stone IPA nudged its recipe. The reformulation was subtle enough that I didn't notice until I read the can label.

Well, I saw this at my local Publix; I think I'll take the plunge and buy a Samuel Adam's after several years. It is remastered, what do I have to lose?

Florida is one of the test markets?

Well, I thought it was the reformulated Boston Lager, I didn't look to closely at the packaging; in that case, I am glad I did not purchase it.

It’s aggravating to see only Sam seasonal on tap everywhere I go where there was once Boston Lager. BL is my favorite beer on tap of all time.

I've been inadvertently avoiding this, opting for more seasonal beers over it, but I did take note that the remaster version comes in 12 packs. Saw it at a distributor recently.

So, the six-packs are still the 'regular' Boston Lager?

    Cheers!

    ...
No Jack. Both 6 and 12 packs.

I took a pic this time. Top of pic is side by side with older six pack and bottom of pic has the pack rotated. 12 packs had obvious marketings too.

I was about to ask if anyone had seen the old and new together. Imagine the confusion.

I was hoping for more takes on this beer in this thread besides myself and @TongoRad

Limiting the test market to NY probably isn't helping.

Plus, I'm not sure how well their sales team is communicating with the retailers. When I asked for this specific version at Cable Beverages it was news to them that there was even a Remastered version, and they had it on their shelves.

They are likely concentrating on the other products (Hard Seltzer, Hard Tea, Hard Cider)? The products that are making money for Boston Beer Company.

    Cheers!

My thoughts are meaningless to the masses and BA but it's not going to stop me from posting. Never has.

    • The machine fold on the new six pack carry box is sloppy. Looks terrible. The head of production or purchasing should send them back. Not acceptable.
    • Remastered. I previously ranted about that meaningless marketing word. But what about Brighter? Easier Drinking? Was the old mastered SA BL darker and difficult to drink?
    • But this one is Distinctively Complex. So it's a complex beer. Hmm. Sounds like there is a lot going on, and it is also Easier to Drink too!
    • Balanced. Of course it is balanced. Beer drinkers have been asking for more balance in their Boston Lager and now the brewers have Remastered the beer, with more balance while also making it brighter and easier to drink, and in case you didn't notice it is Distinctively Complex.
I can only guess that Jim Koch and the marketing people have given up any pretense of being an innovative craft brewer and just went all in on producing a beer for the masses. Plenty of test marketing and focus groups were used and it shows. Nothing exciting about this change, at all. It's still a far cry from AAL. I guess it's a good thing.

But this jumbled marketing is really obnoxious, to me.
    Cheers

Bill, have you seen this 'new & improved' SABL in your area? Do you think it is mostly a NYC area thing?

    Cheers!

I'll take a look in the grocery stores, maybe even buy it.
I don't buy much mainstream beer these days, mostly local brewers but I will find out.

Yes, all those small brewers that have taken away shelf space and tap lines from the big brewers, you have me to blame.
    Cheers.

Permit me to use the word "credit" vs. blame.

Ive always thought it was silly to market beer as easy to be drank. I mean why are you even drinking a beer in the first place? If its that much of a chore then drink some milk or pop or something else instead. Everyone wants to drink a beer but at the same time its almost as if they dont haha.
