Did we know we were getting a new Grand Reserve edition this year? I know one was coming finished in rye barrels but I thought that was the 2021 edition... Maybe it ended up being ready early so they squeezed it in now?

Ah cool, yeah. Looks like the Dec 2021 edition on the Hoarder page hasn't revealed the barrel treatment yet.

We had to leave 2020 on a big note. Grand Finale with Grand Reserve

Opened a Apfelsap now not knowing what to expect, this is delicious! Tastes like Martinellis Gold champagne, just straight apple juice when consumed cold and as it warms up the barrel comes in to balance and dry out the sweetness. A total sleeper beer that I think anyone can enjoy despite it's high abv.

Reading about all the new beers on the COLA db. Definitely going to be a nice month.

The BT Grand Reserve label lists the third barrel as a 'rye whiskey barrel with no peer'. Seems to be a clue to what barrels they are, but can't obv list for trademark reasons etc. Wonder who it is.

Birnesnap (wheatwine fermented with pears and aged in white port barrels) sounds tasty af.

I never had the original so I was fine with the new one. That being said I was kind of hoping they would see the reaction and delay the release of the chocolate one to age them in barrels similar to the original (even if they weren't able to update the labels). Guess that didn't happen haha.

Plus for Hoarders, the BT/Napa and BT Grand Reserve (Rye) for this year.

Double Barrel Maple BT from the Virtual Box - very tasty, but I'll agree with an earlier review that it's very similar to regular Maple BT except with not quite as good balance due to the extra barrel heat. Bottom line: it's delicious because regular Maple BT is a very high bar! But, not close to the nuanced depth of the double barrel vanilla.

Agreed, huge pass on this one. Every day I open my beer fridge and see 6 more sitting there, I cry a little bit.
