I’ll need to revisit all the benthics, but so far, I’ve preferred ‘19 across the board, regular, vanilla and double double ever so slightly over xtra dubl.

The 20’s just seem out of of balance in various ways.

Barrel drowned out flavors in the regular, didn’t get enough coconut in the VB, and xtra dubl was a bit too roasty.

You’ve never deserved 10% stout in a pint glass as much as you do right now. Big Hugs Imperial “It’s All A Dream” Drinking Stout is full throttle this week. Haven’t been hugged by anyone in some time because touching is dangerous? This Friday Hugs is back. More details to come. Feel the embrace.

First glance at the label made me think it was a HA/FFF collab (because of FFF’s Yum Yum label art).

Big hugs is a good, not great beer. It’s a shame it has to follow the footsteps of benthic. I have no doubt they’ll sell out but I think this beer would garner much greater attention outside of stout season. Especially since the base form is not barrel aged.

I understand big hugs came before benthic, but changing times ya’know?

What ever happened to tacos for lunch or whatever that robot was that would post Instagram stuff? Do they shut him down for Stout season?

I agree they should release it and the beginning of Sept so we can ,as @flat_lander would say,"prime our palets" for Benthic.

Sell out? I saw Big Hugs at Binny's as recently as a few weeks ago. IDK if Big Hugs ever really "sells out" at this point.

I’m not saying they should stop making Big Hugs, but I think it’s time to replace its prominence with Catch Hell or something similar.

Big Hugs day was the best and I can't wait for that to happen again. They'd always be out with Dark Matter and donuts, fun free samples from other breweries when you get in, and fun draft variants. If the world was normal, I'd definitely do that again.

I know in recent years, BA Hugs has moved closer to Benthic. I want to see that salted espresso variant again. If BA Hugs becomes more Benthic like, but all coffee, I'd be over the moon.

I couldnt agree more, Catch Hell was so damn good. I remember trading my last can of Vanilla Benthic for a can of Catch Hell and still dont regret that decision.

Such a beer of the past... Aside from Curvature, is there any non-BA stout produced here that ppl go nuts about?

Cuppa is probably the next closest.

I believe you opened your second to last can with me. I definitely don't regret your decision there. Catch Hell lived up to the hype for sure.

There's plenty. Cuppa was just mentioned. Pressed probably counts too. If we're not talking just Chicago area, any Side Project Stout pretty much ever.

Exactly this. Got a crowler of Catch Hell from them a few weeks before Thanksgiving and it was the star of the holiday even among other recent top BA stouts we also opened.
