Donut box? Donut beers? Did I miss something?

Is it donut aged beers? Is it barrel aged donuts? Perhaps every bottle is a unique experience created by dumping all the leftover crumbs from a donut box into a bottle of BT? We don't know... it was mentioned in the "coming 2021" section back during member renewal.

I'm really excited to try Birnesap... but decided I was feeling stout tonight so I cracked For A Spell.

It is delicious! I'm not sure whether I'll buy more or not because I've already got so many stouts... but if I could trade a bunch of the stouts I do have (looking at you SHIT) for more of this I'd take that deal.

Relative to typical Bruery stouts it's got a much thicker body. In fact the body might be the best part. Very luxurious and chewy with a long finish, yet not too heavy. Really great balance. Very chocolaty. It reminds me a lot of some vintages of Parabola (the less dry/roasty years).

It was in the last email "Our Tasting Rooms are open". There's a blurb/ad to join Reserve and the following:
    • Black Tuesday Box 2021 - The third in the lineage of Black Tuesday Boxes and sure to be the best. We're carefully perfecting the recipes of past small-batch treatments in preparation for this box.
    • Black Tuesday Quercus Box - A Black Tuesday experiment in wood. No variants, just different barrel treatments of your beloved Black Tuesday.
    • The Donut Box - This box of pastry stouts was inspired by our favorite local donuts. Decadent and delicious, this box is dessert in liquid form.

I was really hoping it was going to be more of a stout than BT is (it could be argued it's really a barleywine, but that's a long discussion).

I'm still wondering why The Bruery hasn't done a SUPER thick BA stout. They have the knowledge and barrel program to do it.

I think that's what Monster Stout is going to try to accomplish?

2018 cuvee still tasting great. Sweeter and not quite as strong ginger snap cookie as I recall, but still pretty solid. Tis the season!

Birnesap is very nice. Intricate nuanced and well balanced. Actually a little less sweet than Apfelsap which surprised me with the pears.

The pear flavor is soft but nice, the white Port gives it a white wine vibe with a bit of tartness. But nothing overwhelms. Honestly I feel like this would kill it on a warm summer evening more so than here in winter.

A real winner! Especially notable since it's not a stout...a few more will add some needed variety to the cellar.

Ok so I opened a bottle of Brycescotti. I have to say, it is one of the most balanced BA Bruery beers I've had. It wasn't overly sweet, the coffee and cacao balanced out the characteristic Bruery sweetness.

I'm looking ahead at the 2021 release schedule (just the beers we know about, mind you), and there's like an average of two giant good looking stouts each month... I think 2021 is going to be a tough year for drinking down cellar stouts, let alone stocking up on anything new right now! In another time and place I would have gone for more of For A Spell, but I feel good about the responsibility of holding off.

However, for the exact same reason, I'm excited to order more Birnesap!!! Second half of the bottle tonight might actually be a little better than last night. Really a well done beer, and nice to add something that light can pass through to the cellar.
