True. I was a coach on my sons football team many moons ago- pop warner and pee wee. We won that state championship and almost made it to the nationals in Florida. I will never forget those great times with those kids.

I mean every team has been through the same thing with free agency and covid as well. You guys traded aome good weapons away on offense. But so did we too especially on defense.

Thousand Pound Sow , a quad made with maple syrup , from The FarmHouse .

Nice one. Not "wow, but quite enjoyable, and dangerously easy-drinking. No noticeable alcohol, despite the 13%abv . About 2/3 way through, I do feel as though a hangover is already starting.:smile: Drying finish that keeps it from being too sweet.:+1:

Almost clear, deep orange-amber , with light tan head.

Smell is dried cherry, prune , and raisin , with a slight brandy-like aroma. Some maple is present from the open bottle, but not from the glass.

Taste is raisin, beach plum, and something that is between leather and wood. Light pleasant bitterness, that lends a drying effect. Slight tang lingers on the upper palate . No noticeable alcohol.

Feel is smooth, slightly slick and syrupy , with light very fine carbonation. No alcohol-warming , despite the 13% abv.

Another beer I got in a generous trade with @micada
    Bells Double Two Hearted
    Packaged 9-03-2020

Appearance: Clear amber-yellow color with a medium-sized foamy white head that slowly faded. A good looking double IPA.

Smell: Moderate pine aromas along with some faint fruity aromas.

Taste: Following the nose I get pine notes, moderate citrus notes, and some mild malt sweetness. I seem to always get a bit of sweetness with big double IPAs or triple IPAs but in this beer they're countered by a strong hop backbone allowing the beer to finish moderately dry as the sweetness notes subside.

Mouth-feel: The body is on the light side of medium-bodied with a generous level of carbonation. Nice body for a double IPA. Mild alcohol for the listed 11.0% ABV.

Overall: A nice "big" double IPA. A lot of times I find when the ABV gets high in IPAs the malt sweetness is too prevalent and I have a big, sweet, bitter mess. This beer has a big hop backbone which nicely counters the malt sweetness.

East Sixth Brewing's Peanut Butter Maple Thicc Boi Imperial Stout, 8.5% ABV, 3.87 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a pinky of cocoa colored head. Viscous, no head retention or lacing

S: Peanuts, maple, fades as it warms. Had a great nose up front

T: Roasty & dry, peanuts, coffee, milk chocolate up front. Dryness & peanuts as this warms, some cocoa, smokeyness & maple as this warms. Finishes dry with a smidge of coffee & maple candy

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation; body thins out a bit once warm

Good flavor but needed more body, drinkable enough

I'm slightly past the recommended buy by date (3+ months) but I still found it a good beer. I haven't had one IPA that wasn't better fresh and had more prominent flavors so I guess I need to see if I can get ahold of a fresh one!

    Finishing with a Bell’s 35th Expedition Stout.
It was another long day of moving the wood piles from the driveway to the top of the hill. Monotonous and tiring, but damned if I didn’t get a great workout from it all. The wood is finally all moved, so now the excavation guys can have unfettered access to the trees that will get leveled.

Back to remote work 3/5 days tomorrow. I’d rather be retired, or maybe independently wealthy.

You’re so way over thatta way...LOL! We need that bullet train cross-country so we can trade beers faster! I’d like to be on that side for a couple days drinking some Pelican MOAS at the source on that beach property. Not having that luxury, I do enjoy these dark brews now that’s it’s getting colder. Moving wood, chainsawing, making huge fires while having some tasty heavy hitters....now that’s a good weekend IMO!

Everything about this beer, from your review down to the artwork/branding, makes me want to try it. Sounds delicious.
I got a can of this from @jvgoor3786 in NBS BIF #12 and I completely agree with you. I thought it was a really good beer, but with a thicker body it would have been next level.

Here's something you don't see every day, a brewery fresh Light Lager. Lops Brewing Co. of scenic Woonsocket Rhode Island has recently released this Lager named Lops Lite. Cheers.

A moderate pour from a 32-oz. can yielded a fat finger of white soapy and fizzy foam with very long retention, the head slowly shrinks and turns rocky. Irregular blotches of lace form over the hazy light-straw colored body.

Bready and crackery malt greets the nose with very faint floral hops.

Semi-dry with mild bitterness, the malt taste is big for the style with the rice adjunct a bit forward. The middle of the taste has corn and a general graininess standing out. Hop flavor is low, balanced behind the malt and adjuncts. A strange cardboard like taste is strong at the finish, it retreats with the other flavors leaving behind a chalky aftertaste.

Light bodied with plentiful and lasting carbonation, session-able and smooth going down. Lots of flavor for the style although some of the tastes are not very pleasing.

One more for the late night crowd. This one came to me from another BA that I often see posting in the last few entries of this thread each week. @2beerdogs sent me this can of Blood Junkie by Three Weavers, thanks again! An imperial red ale is not something I find myself drinking often, but I used to be a big fan of G'Knight by Oskar Blues which I believe was an imperial red ipa. For that reason alone my interest was piqued.

It poured a very dark and deep red, closer to a dark maroon, bordering on brown ale territory. The head was a nice inch and a half of decently dense foam with the slightest red tint. The smell was a balance of sweet malt and piney hops. There were more hops on the nose than I had expected. The taste followed the nose. The malt led the way while the hops were all over the finish. They were piney and citrusy and bright. With a medium body, a dry finish helped to keep me wanting more. Only towards the end did I notice the sweetness from the malt sticking to my palate. Very nicely done imperial red brought a balanced drinking experience.

Interesting and very well described. I havent checked them out. You make me want to drink it....then not drink it.
:stuck_out_tongue:. Seriously though I always enjoy your takes wherever you are in RI.

Please check them/this Beer out, I'm not sure about the style. This could be an AAL or AL and not a Light Lager. Lops makes some decent Ales, I prefer them over their Lagers. Cheers.

Which is really cool to me. I think more of these top "IPA breweries" should brew an adjunct lager just for the hell of it and to go in a completely opposite direction. I bet they would be really good.

The only big draw-back, $10 for a 32-oz. can. I support local breweries, I always try their new stuff. If this was last year I probably wouldn't have bought this one. Cheers.

Yeah 10 bucks for 32 ounces of an aal may be steep but if you're regularly buying their flagship beers for me I would have no problem paying that just to support them....and try it.
