I think that is why this one will be fun, lots of options...really pretty open ended.

Highlighting what @officerbill said below. This is just my two cents, but I think that a beer tasting thread for any winter seasonal is too broad given that these threads were previously either style specific or everyone having the same beer. In my opinion, the Bourbon County thread was sort of a successful hybrid of the two approaches. Limiting it to beers that are marketed as holiday beers provides a better grouping than including any winter seasonal even if the styles of holiday beers are all over the place (with perhaps higher than average alcohol being the only real unifier). At least there's a tradition behind the production and marketing of holiday beers. @Snowcrash000 's selection of three beers above shows this nicely. I even think that calling attention to the variety of styles marketed as holiday beers is a good thing when you consider how frequently beer reviewers seem to struggle with this. The "spices in Celebration" being the most obvious example of this (although it's become a joke). I've already got my beers, so either direction doesn't affect me personally, but I certainly don't mean to step on anyone's toes. I thought I'd just toss in one other opinion.

The tasting threads have vacillated between specific beers, to general styles, to very broad topics (including one of my all time favorites tasting threads - "beers you inexplicably haven't had"), so this would certainly skew very strongly towards the broader category. Obviously the next one up is going to be a style specific tasting and the BCBS was a more narrow/specific beer tasting.

I had envisioned this one as a Holiday beer tasting - with a special emphasis on beers that are released with the holiday season in mind. For some reason, I thought B-bomb was a holiday ale, but now I see the label is "winter-ale". eh, we'll iron out some kinks between now and the thread posting, but its going to, by its very nature, be a broader topic.

I should add - This is just me, but I also really enjoy it when someone breaks the rules (so to speak) if they do it well.

That was my thinking. A tasting showing the variety of beers celebrating Christmas with breweries having different interpretations of holiday expression.

Well, I pretty much already decided to have the B-Bomb for Christmas anyway and if it doesn't fit with this tasting, I'll just post it in NBW instead. Really doesn't make that much of a difference to me .

This may be the one year (God willing) that including the actual Christmas holiday could work. My own big family get together isn't happening and I'd bet it's not the only one.

It would surely be different for those with younger families, but extending it through the weekend would even allow those members to participate.

I kind of like the idea of starting on the 25th, even if it's just for a unique occasion.

My wife and I are staying holed up at home, so I'm OK with that, personally. With my earlier post, I was imagining that it might not work for others (especially, as you say, those with young families.)

(Also, @zid, @officerbill, @Snowcrash000, @jonphisher ... and anyone else who opined on this topic of the breadth of the tasting --- too lazy to scroll back too far)

I already have in the 'fridge these beers,
    • Summit Winter Ale - Winter Warmer
    • BSt. Bernardus Christmas Ale - Quadrupel (Quad)
    • Three Floyds Alpha Klaus Christmas Porter - Porter - American
    • Schell's Snowstorm Oat Stout - Stout - Oatmeal
    • Anchor Our Special Ale 2020 - Winter Warmer
    • N'Ice Chouffe - Strong Ale - Belgian Dark
    • Wild Mind Winter's Edge Imperial Stout - American Imperial Stout
So, I've got enough to cover it no matter how broad or restricted it is! :stuck_out_tongue:

    Here I'm!
Both as regards the tasting of Christmas Ales (I have one in front of my eyes from 2018, already drunk last year and that drove me crazy, which in my opinion will not have a long life yet but which I am ready to keep for this tasting), and for the tasting of Barley Wines of which I have stuff in the cellar, now unavailable ...
Both for the English and American style.
In particular, I have one on hand that expired in March 2020, "long" aged in grappa (Riserva 18 Lune Marzadra) which is part of the project of the Italian Brewery (that of TIPOPILS, to understand) of wood-barrel aged beers.
We're talking about styles of beer that I love, so... I'd be talking about it for days, not hours...
I await official news in time to avoid other commitments.
    Greetings to all guys!
    :beers:

    Yea, Christmas beers it is.

If you have a preference for the weekend before Christmas or the weekend of Christmas, please note that here. I will pick whichever has more popular support.
