I think you’ll get a lot more participation the weekend before.

    That was my argument before.

Personally, either works for me, but I'm retired, and therefore nothing better to do!

As a notorious disliker of the thanksgiving holiday - I'm okay with this. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

My LBS sold me a single. Whether or not it makes the tasting depends on the weekend picked for the tasting.

I vote weekend before based on work schedule, but I'm in either way.

So, in the interest of conducting the most holy millennial duty of moving on to the next thing already, are we talking about a barleywine tasting in Jan/Feb?

Yea, barleywine/wheatwine tasting in January/Feb. So actually if you want to really move on, we should start talking about the tasting for after that one.

A thought came to be while I was reading your holiday beer tasting notification, but I didn't want to add any unnecessary distractions to it, so I'm asking here..... Has anyone considered or attempted setting up a Discord server for one of these online beer tastings? I know @Todd tried to get a Beer Advocate Discord server going a couple years ago and there wasn't enough interest, but maybe for a specific event like this there could be? Maybe?

I also have an idea for the next tasting: Non-Alcoholic Beer (<0.5%). I suggest doing it in January for the people who follow holidays with a dry-January. I don't know how much people here pay attention to NA beer, but in the past couple years there's been a lot of new NA craft beer coming out and some of it is pretty good. There are a surprising number of options. Also brewers can direct ship NA beer to doorsteps pretty much anywhere, so there's virtually no distribution limitation [and no excuse for anyone not being able to get their hands on something for the tasting ].

IMO, these were started on BA and should be hosted on our forums. Moving them to a Discord server would pull traffic away from BA, make the online tastings less inclusive to our membership, and it's not something that I'd be interested in supporting or promoting.

This is an interesting idea. If there is enough interest in it, I think this would be great theme for a tasting.

We can put both ideas together and do a NA barley wine tasting. That should be a very popular thread.

I see what you mean. I don't think I was clear as I could have been though. I honestly envisioned Discord as a side activity tto supplement, not supplant, the larger forum discussion. A minority of people would even do Discord and they can't stay on all weekend, so I figured Discorders would still be posting in the forums to reach the larger community. Maybe I'm being naïve about that.

Don't you think Narwhal Aged barleywine is a little narrow though?

"..and here we have a bottle of A Deli Deal With Adele From Anchor Steam Ridge brewings and this is an American Narwhal-Aged Barleystout Wine. It's only available in the North Pole so it has those crazy rare Niller Rye trade value units! Gristfister59 on whalescamz.edu offered me like 3 Thomas R. Handjees for it, but I told him to take a hike because someone on Facebook closed for a Henry Van Winkler 25 PLUS a Cantyillion Peen D'anus! Anchor Steamz aged this Barleystout in a Narwhal so you definitely get all those huge OCEAN TONEZ, and it also guarantees that whale value for all the bourbons you want to get. If for some reason you decide to open it, you can just blend it with some of this Firewalker Pear Ebola because that's got the polar bear on it for that true North Pole experience plus it lends all those deep INKY TONES. Then we just pour into a glass of shaved ice for that Arctic chill and you're all set to make A Deal With Adele's New Delhi Dealer! Okay, don't drink beers!"

I know that guy would be on board.
