I think we could be misinterpreting the "I was pissed" remark. Maybe it is the British pissed, and bayareahustla liked the 2 beers so much that he got drunk right away.

Heh sorry, that's some bad luck. I’ve been there, well let’s just say way too many times, and I can’t recall them ever having <4 beers on tap (and that was during the opening), and usually they have ~6. Next time!

Im in for one night tonight, staying at W. Would prefer not to stray too far out of the core. Current plan is:
    1. Bottlecraft to fill up the wine...err beer pelican case.
    2. Escape Fish for food
    3. Monkeypaw

Is that a decent plan? Any comments/thoughts? All opinions are appreciated...

Monkey Paw is a bit of a trek from you. I might go to Downtown Johnny Brown's. They have a killer tap list. Also, I like Best Damn Beer Shop/Krisp better than Bottlecraft.

It's always nice to just walk, but a taxi isnt too bad to Monkeypaw from the W, is it?

Oh no a taxi will be fine. It's ~16 blocks but after about 10th street it gets kind of shady until you get to Monkey Paw. I wouldn't necessarily do it at night even though you'll probably be fine.

Depends on the bums in the area, are they more stabby or rapey?

More beggy than anything...you're more likely to deal with violence from clubgoers than from the bums downtown. I still wouldn't recommend walking around outside the Gaslamp area alone late at night, but violence is very unlikely.

Does Pizza Port still offer the lunch special for $5? And you can upgrade to a beer for a buck. Insanely good deal.

yes, I think it is $5.99 regular, so $7 with a beer (extra $1 for high ABV) ... might be wrong, kind of weird that I don't remember the price even though I go about 2-5 times a month.

It's that good of a deal  I used to go to the OB one quite a bit after it opened becuase my band used to play shitty shows at Winstons at midnight....during the week. Still was pretty awesome and I miss being able to do that.

There is no way you will have any trouble walking to monkeypaw, no place in the city of san diego is scarey enough to not walk through. nonetheless, I LOVE MONKEYPAW

Of course Im crazy tired. so I went to Best Damn and it was great; thanks. Big improvements in their store versus a year ago. Picked up 8 bottles. After that things went haywire. Ended up at Neighborhood and had a very good burger and a good, medium-bodied Societe IPA.

I'm surprised Neighborhood doesnt get more love. It's one of my must stops when I'm in SD. I'd rather eat there and drink at monkey paw than just stay at monkey paw.

I too love the Neighborhood, I usually recommend it to people going downtown. I especially think it is a great lunch spot, their spicy tuna sandwich is amazing

Food at Neighborhood has been real hit and miss for me. Service if I'm not at the bar has always been miss.

that is true, service there can be terrible, which is another reason I tend to enjoy going for lunch over dinner.

Overall, I have had great food, though I typically always go back to the same things, the burger, the mussels, and the tuna sandwich. Anything you recommend to get or avoid?
