have you guys ever used other methods to compare to this one? Seems like it may be a good investment for me. I always just use this mini cork I have and usually it works ok pretty well. Curious what you guys think. The size of those bottles almost always prevents me from opening them. I don’t have many but it’d be nice to drink through the few I have.

I find it to be a tight fit and some work to get it fully sealed on 750s, but it does the job. Perfect for 22s. In my experience the openings/lips of these bottle styles differ just enough relative to what I mention in my first sentence.

As an alternative, I don’t mind reusing the cap especially if I get a clean pull. Snaps right back on.

I’ve never used a wine stop only because it’s readily available in our house.

At the beginning of the pandemic I used one of those stopper things.
Now the big bottles are sessionable.

Agreed, may as well do it properly. Thankfully there are now smaller 12oz versions of previous bomber only (see Abyss, KBS, etc...)

This suggestion implies using a device to create a vacuum in the leftover head space (although you may know of some other type of device that does otherwise), but the vacuum type of device is NOT what you want. The kind that I'm talking about uses a rubber stopper that has a hole thru it that accepts a small hand pump that pulls the air thru the stopper from the head space, thus a vacuum is created. The stopper hole re-seals itself after the hand pump is removed.

The problem with this type of device is that once a vacuum is created some of the CO2 in the beer will be pulled out into the head space because it wants to create equilibrium inside the bottle. When you pull the stopper the next day to drink the beer the CO2 escapes from the head space and your beer is now closer to being flat.

These devices are okay for still wine but not for carbonated liquids.

I sack up and drink the bottle, dude. Especially during the holidays. Get it done.

I have almost always finished bombers - I really love those things, but don't get 'em like I used to - I love that second pour - there have been maybe a dozen bombers in 10 years that I haven't finished (I'm sure that's wrong but you get the idea)... BUT (lol) when I don't wanna finish it, I use Rabbit bottle stoppers - very effective - but I probably never sat on an unfinished bomber for more than a day or two though *accurate*... Regarding "drinking 20-30 bucks worth of beer all at once by yourself," I love buying myself a great beer or bottle and enjoying it - I don't need to share - lol - if it feels like "toughing it out" I'd stopper it and come back to it later... There's no wrong - do what feels right for you...

My preferred size is a third of a liter, fits into the glass in one pour and gives the taste. Half a liter is quite ok too, but already with a tiny tiny question mark. You don't really see bombers on the shelves here. I remember the surprise when I got a couple by mail. As it was NA I didn't have to do the calculations, and it was natural, if a bit strange and over the top, to have it in one sitting. If having a choice I take smaller.

This is why I love modern Times... they canned several ba stouts in 12oz format. I'm a lightweight, and so 12 Oz is perfect for a solo setting.

I agree with others, cap the bottle and finish it the next day or so. Or like me, if you don't love it you toss out the rest. I have plenty of beer to drink tomorrow.

Props for those that can solo big abv bottles.

If it’s like an 8% stout, I’m good for 12-16oz serving. When you get to those big sweet ones at 12%+ ABV, I’m usually only really enjoying the first 4-6oz max and then remainder is somewhat like forcing it down. Same with cakes, brownies or other rich, decadent sweets if you think about it.

There’s quite a few places here that if it’s over 7% abv they limit the pours to 10 Oz. You want a Two Hearted Ale you get a 10 Oz glass. Where you can find KBS or BC they’re 8 Oz pours, and a bit pricy, like $10.

Big bottle Imperial stouts I usually sip over the course of 3-4 hours in the evening, almost always on a Saturday in front of the stereo.

Once upon a time I used to be able to finish those big ones off no problem. As I've gotten older I've laid off the high % beers far more than I used to - as I've aged I realized I don't really like being drunk, to say nothing of the hangovers after take far longer to dissipate.
I've mostly stuck with lower alcohol beers lately. So, a few weeks ago I opened a 14% 2009 BCBS, I had a hard time finishing it, though I used to drink it like water back then. I should have put the second half in the fridge - I have the lever action stoppers I put in after I pour the first bit.
Under about 10% I can finish a bomber off in one day, but over that I shouldn't. (unless it's an afternoon - evening thing.)

I honestly have seen much of a change even without a stopper. I just put the cap back on and drink the next night. With some of these 13%+ stouts there's so little carbonation that you hardly tell. If your fridge smells though, then thats a horse of different color.

Sounds like there might be a market for bomber-finishers, if the logistics could be worked out. I can think of worse ways to make a living.
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled bombers yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming store...."
(No, actually, I'm not finishing a bomber at the moment.)

I'm willing to buy any size bottle or growler. I usually drink about 12 oz in an evening, maybe 24 sometimes. I'll stopper a bottle and recap a growler. I don't see big changes due to oxidation over a few days. I actually enjoy the beer the next few days with reduced carbonation, especially british ale styles. Crowler 32 oz cans are another matter. I'm generally not up to polishing of a quart.

You're pretty much describing my old age (73) approach to drinking. Because of my reduced capacity, I like to have a stock of regular beers that I know I like. Less time for experimentation. My comments on recapping are nearby.
