Starting my Sunday with Other Half Triple Forever Galaxy. This is pretty similar to the Citra I had last night, but does a good job showing the difference between the hops. Wish I had done this a side by side so I could blend the last few ounces as I feel the minor issues with both would balance out nicely.

Good afternoon everyone. Starting off my Sunday with another saison from Keeping Together. [IMG]
Keeping Together - At the Still Point of the Turning World

Initially pours a dark burnished gold color (its showing up much lighter than it actually is in my picture for some reason). Huge pillowy, bubbly head form, then slowly collapses until a 1/4 of lovely velvety foam remains on the beer. Splotchy lacing sticks to the glass as the beer is consumed. Aroma has notes of lemon, lime, acidic citrus, grain and a spicy rye note. There is a touch of tart, acidic funkiness to it. Twangy is the word that comes to mind ...

Taste follows the nose with notes of a twangy tart lemon and lime note with notes of grain, spicy pepper, peppercorn, rye and some yeasty notes. The rye is really interesting with the buckwheat and acidic tartness - its not as smooth as some of the other saisons from Keeping Together. Feel is light, bright, vibrant and effervescent. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry on the finish.

Overall this is a very nice saison from Keeping Together.

Thanks! Beyond the fact that I don't understand German, it was just physically difficult to discern the words on the label, there was so little contrast between the lettering in the background. I appreciate the correction.

I loved this beer. I still have a couple more Keeping Together beers that you sent me waiting to be consumed. I'm off the last week of the year...may be a good time to open up at least one of them.

Final planned new beer to me for NBW #21 / New Beer Sunday #824. Trying a second new to me witbier this weekend, this one from Tampa, FLA, on a perfect Chicago December day.

    Cigar City Florida Cracker

    Facts and can notes:
Bought as a single from Binny's for their $9.99 create a six pack, 12 oz canned 9/1/20 @14:19 poured into a large tulip glass, 15 IBU, 5.5% ABV. Belgian-Style White Ale Brewed With Coriander & Orange Peel. Though it is named for the 18th century Cracker Cowboys of the Florida prairie, the citrusy notes and effervescent body of the Belgian-style White Ale make it perfect for any lovers of fresh air and outdoor adventures.

Appearance: Bright orange colour, slightly murky, very generous rich and creamy white bubbly head lingers for several minutes, leaving rich and creamy lacing in it's wake. It took a few separate pours to finish the 12 oz can despite the large glass size due to significant linger head. Light carbonation. Very good looking pour. 4.5

    Aroma:
Citrus strong and pleasant, lemon, grass and clove back, the banana aroma subdued by the stronger Orange. Smells like it is going to be a sweet one. 3.75

    Taste:
Taste consistent with aroma, but bolder and more sweet and varied. Citrus pineapple and mango lead the way, sweet but contained. Wheat back comes through well, slight bitterness from the hops containing the sweet flavors. Somewhat funky, clove and banana firm and providing great depth and flavors. This is bursting with flavors, not your typical witbier. 4.5

    Mouthfeel:
Light to medium body, faint carbonation, dry like a cracker, alternating between bitter and sweet as I work through the offering. Sweetness tingles the tongue. Crisp and clean finish. Easy drinking. 3.75

    Overall:
This is a bold and refreshing witbier, more orange, tropical and hoppy bitter than the European equivalent. That said, I like this better than the typical offering and glad I picked this up. Well done Cigar City. 4.25

Trying to finish catching up with a few more threads. Refrigerator packed to the gills, so just taking notes for future Spring purchases. Keep em coming and hope you have/had a great beer and weather weekend!

Another beer from the generous @woemad holiday BIF box.
    Lumberbeard Brewing Batch 1 IPA
    Features Citra, Sabro, El Dorado.
Pours a hazy pale yellow with a 1/2" of snow white head that settles rather quickly to a thin ring leaving a good amount of lacing.
Aroma is lemon, lime, orange amd a whiff of floral/ grass and a vinous white wine quality.
Taste follows with tart citrus, grapefruit pith and piney bitter, touch of wheat.
Feel is medium/light, snappy tiny bubble carb throughout. Drying bitter finish.
A nice combo beer of East and West Coast Styles. Nicely bitter in the West Coast style but light haze and pilsner malt in the East Coast style. A very quenching IPA that has begun to fade just a bit. I usually can easily detect Sabro coconut characteristics and dont particularly care for them. Not the case here. Didnt get coconut.
Enjoyable. Thanks for the opportunity Fred. [IMG]

Schwarze Tinte Collab Stout from Hopfenkopf Brau GbR, if I can trust the database, although it seems to have two beers listed with exactly the same label, almost identical names, and different breweries, neither of which I can find on the can...

500ml can served in a tulip. EXP 2022/05. Day 13 of my advent calendar.

Pours black with a medium head that collapses to a ~2mm layer, some thick lacing clinging to the sides of the glass. Smell is lager yeast and a hint of dark toast.

Taste is roast bitterness, moderate anise. Sweetness...not sure how it's coming across. Not super strong sweetness, but noticeable.

Mouthfeel is medium to thin. Overall, I think it's pretty good.

    12 oz bottle, best-by date of 05/01/2021.

Pours solid black with a creamy beige head and the aesthetically pleasing cascade. 1/8” creamy cap remains throughout.

Aroma is quite mild. Dark roast coffee and cocoa are prevalent.

Flavor begins with deep roasted malt notes, pleasant earthy character. Coffee and dark chocolate stand out the most before a slightly bitter finish. Coffee and cocoa remain on the palate, but not heavy or sticky. The flavors all work together well, I’m having some difficulty picking everything out though. Perhaps I’ll let the next one warm a bit?

Overall I like this beer, my 3rd sampling from Left Hand. I’ve tried the Octoberfest and the Peanut Butter milk stout prior...they’ve all been good. They’re showing up more and more in my area now, which is a good thing.

[IMG] Citra, Azzacca, Topaz, and Motueka NEDIPA from Deciduous Brewing Company. Pours a very hazy orange yellow with a massive 2 plus finger sticky white head that leaves little streaks of lace as it slowly settles with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma guava, pineapple, tangerine, apricot, and pink grapefruit rind. 4.5

Taste follows guava, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, and a little hit of grapefruit in the bold yet balanced finish. Lingers on the palate sip after glorious sip. 4.5

Mouthfeel is pretty big, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky not dry, and at 8% ABV it is packed with flavor, but really easy drinking. 5

Overall they just keep putting out amazing stuff. Obviously the hazy stuff is amazing, but sours, and stouts seem to be going up another level. Probably NH best and most consistent brewery. 4.5

D9 Brewing Co. Tropiculture: Jaboticaba Juicy IPA

Purchased as part of a mix-a-six at my local ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.
16 oz. Can with no best by or canned on date visible. Poured into a Tired Hands Teku.
Appearance: Body has a reddish-purple hue, slight look of dark tanned leather. Almost has a red wine look. Head dissipates quickly but at first look has a slight purple tinge. No lacing left behind.

Aroma: Reminds me of the homemade grape juice we would make when I was younger. Grapes, red wine, raspberries and a little citrus as well.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Grape juice, tropical fruits and mutes red wine. Starts out sweet and juicy but as you get further into it and it warms up a definite hop bitterness shows up. Sweet start, slight bitter finish, brings this one to the crushable level.

Overall: Jaboticaba Juicy IPA is a tasty IPA that isn't something you would expect in an IPA. I don't ever recall seeing or even hearing of the Jaboticaba berry, but it was an interesting addition to this beer. I don't see myself buying this one again, that doesn't mean it was a bad beer or even approaching drain pour; it just isn't something I would seek out flavor-wise.

    Cheers!

There are some options, depending on whether you are using the app or desktop/website version of Imgur. One way to get a photo in here (or any forum) is to copy a direct link to the image, not the album. (Note: the album link does not have a file extension like .png or .jpg).

Then embed the image in your post using BA's image tool above the post text box:

Even though Modern Hell, from Jack's Abby, has been around for a while it didn't make it to my area until last week so it is a "new to me " beer.
JA has never disappointed me and this beer has been praised in various threads so I was eager to give it a try, in fact I picked up two 4 packs blind. Modern Hell lives up to its reputation.
JA describes it as "golden in color, unfiltered, and full-bodied" and that it is.
There is another thread running regarding 12 packs, I would readily grab weekly 12 packs of this beer.

Canned on 11/23/20, a moderately slow pour into my Radelberger pilsner glass

L: clouded, dark wheat (like looking through frosted glass) with an off-white, tall foamy head that slowly dissolves into a thick film
S: Bread, hay, some Grape Nuts cereal with a hint of lemon
T: Buttermilk biscuits and some Grape Nuts with a very, very subdued sulfured molasses nip at the end
F: Soft and lush, the mild carbonation fills your mouth and and leaves a dry tingle on your tongue.
O: Excellent! This is a refreshing, satisfying beer. You are not going to want to down one after another, you are going to savor each swallow, regret that your glass is empty, and then smile because you have more Modern Hell waiting for you in the fridge.

Hello NBW... I have three new ones for today and I'm pretty excited for each of them. To start off, I have a new blueberry rye (!?) sour from Mikkeller San Diego called... *drum roll*... Blue Rye The Sour Guy... *groan* :joy:

My love/hate relationship with puns aside, this one seemed pretty cool and interesting. I did some research and found that Mikkeller has had a long-running positive relationship with blueberry beers, as they've apparently done Spontanblueberry, doubleblueberry, and tripleblueberry in the past as well as several other beers featuring this fruit. The pour is a beautiful, slightly-hazy purple-red color with a surprisingly-retentive head of pink-ish foam topping it off. Great color here, for sure, though the foamy cap leaves no lacing behind as it slowly sinks to a quarter-finger with average legs. Pretty par for the course in terms of blueberry beers I've had, but good enough for me I think.

The nose is very jammy and fruity, coming forward with redcurrant, raspberry, strawberry preserves, and, of course... blueberry! It actually doesn't smell as blueberry-forward as I thought it would; for some reason, this specific type of berry always has this distinct grassiness to it when featured prominently in beers, at least to my nose anyway. Didn't really expect to get any rye in the nose, but I guess there's some light earthiness here and a hint of baking spice that gives it an almost "pie-like" aspect.

Alright, so this is called a "Berliner-style Weisse" on the can, but it clocks in at a hefty 6.2% ABV, so it's really more of a strong Berliner or, more likely, just an "American Wild Ale" at the end of the day. The feel is less thick and chewy than I thought it'd be, but then again, this doesn't feature lactose unlike many of the fruited sours I've been used to drinking recently, so that makes a bit of sense I suppose. Big flavors of raspberry and strawberry, light tropical fruit (papaya and passion fruit) with some biting maltiness (maybe the rye? It's kind of complex and not overly "wheaty") and solid acidity. Light lemony citrus tang with a hint of juicy orange, then blueberry and blackcurrant in the finish with a strong fruity depth of flavor. Pretty good drinkability and decent carbonation as well. Definitely not a "soda-like" sour, as there's definitely some solid malt backbone in here, and the fruit treatment seems good although maybe not as specifically-blueberry as some of the other beers I've had in this (admittedly-specific) category. Worth a shot, for sure. Not mind-blowing, but fun and silly.

Back soon with a new collaborative IPA featuring a brand-new hop varietal I know nothing about other than descriptions I've read about it... until then...

In my opinion, this was the weakest of the beers from Keeping Together this year - and its a great beer. Its just the other ones have been so outstanding. Im trying to review all of them before the end of the year - I think I've got one left now? I really think you'll enjoy them though.

    Belgian Witbier from Belgium (6%).

Pours a cloudy, almost hazy, deep golden coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy malt, grassy, citrus hops and estery fruit and spice, with notes of tangerine, green apple, banana and clove.

Taste follows the nose, with an excellent balance of doughy malt, grassy, citrus hops and estery fruit and spice, with notes of tangerine, green apple, banana. clove, white pepper and just a hint of vanilla coming through in the aftertaste. Finishes with a light bitterness and some tangerine, green apple and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

An excellent Witbier with quite an assertive flavor profile of fruity and quite spicy yeast esters, as well as some citrus. Although seeming a bit more bold than your average Witbier, with a little more ABV as well, it's still rather refreshing and easy-drinking, with very much of a summer vibe despite its winter release date. Overall, a very enjoyable Witbier that's a bit heavier on the spices, which may explain the winter release, with quite a well-balanced, expressive flavor profile.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. It's been an excellent beer weekend but a one and done as far a new beers are concerned. My mother's side of the family is from Hudson County so I figured I had to give 902 Brewing's Welcome to Jersey City a try. It was released in June 2020. The appearance and mouth feel are both excellent. The smell is fine. But the taste is a bit wonky. It opens with a fair amount of chocolate and dark fruit sweetness, then segues to char and burnt nuts, and then finishes extremely bitter. These taste sensations are all fine but they should be blended better. This is a bit like drinking a series of separate stouts. Here is my full review:

    3.73/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75

Poured from undated, 500 ML bottle into a stout glass. I believe it was released in June 2020 so it's approximately six months old. It pours a very dark walnut, approaching black, with a finger of fluffy, medium-khaki head and thick, creamy lacing. The nose is roasty with chocolate/cocoa, burnt nuts, char, and the faintest hint of dark fruit. The taste opens with the same roasted malt and chocolate notes. It's quite sweet initially but the sweetness is balanced by burnt char and earthy nuts. I like the dark fruit notes: black cherry and perhaps fig. It finishes with considerable bitterness. It almost seems like two separate stouts at the beginning and end. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with lite carbonation, and the 10.7% ABV is warming but not overpowering. Overall, Welcome to Jersey City's best attributes are its Look and Feel. I don't mind bitterness but in this case it's a bit much at the finish.

Have a great Sunday, everyone. Cheers, NBW!
