People can hate on this all they want, but if I lived close I would totally do this. Their taproom is awesome and its not like we can go out to bars or do anything relatively fun anyway

It sounded nice to me at first too, something that I might even travel for if we weren't fighting a pandemic. But then I clicked the link...

I've had a 12-15ish (?) course NYE dinner by a James Beard award winning chef with wine pairing for less per person than this. And literally everything about it was pricier from the POV of the restaurant's expense, namely its urban location, menu items/ingredients, to the bottles of wine.

Yeah, you're basically paying $107 a bottle per person for Tequila and VB Assassin. Looks like seating is in 1 hour intervals, so if I'm reading this correctly you're getting a fairly basic 3 course meal and expected to eat it within a hour, given your bottles and you're off to go party/ring in 2021, maybe in a college town in rural Iowa in the middle of winter, or back at home.

They know there are plenty of people who will do this. So, all good for them.

Looks like Toppling Goliath is figuring out what political fundraisers did a while ago. People will pay for the access, not the food. Many political fundraisers realized they could switch to hot dogs instead of gourmet dishes and still charge the same since it's the candidate that's the draw. How long until Toppling Goliath asks you to tear open your own mustard packets for their next big "dinner"?

Their taproom is great but no way in hell in this environment I'm going to an indoor restaurant to eat with other germ-ridden humans (& probably a lot of them). Just one more questionable move by TG. But hey, they're making tons of money!

Talking about the cost of these dinners has got me thinking. TG has to be one of the most profitable craft breweries in the world, right?

Anyone know of any other high priced dinner / releases like this?

Forager has done these prior to pandemic. You pay like 350 or 400 depending on the release. Get a pour of each of the bottles of release plus one other pour and the 6 bottles from the release as well as a good item (usually a sample of a main menu item from whoever is catering the event) The 6 bottles usually cost about 250.

I mean if you base it off their last 2 dinners it appears there’s like 30 people on their top deck. Which they can easily space out appropriately.

they certainly aren’t packing people in for the events

While decorah has a college in its town, I’d hardly call it a college town. That place is dead at baseline when TG does not have a release and it’s hardly noticeable when college isn’t in session. But either way, I wouldn’t ring in the new year other than my own house

Is it worth the 3 hour drive for these two bottles? I have a ticket but quickly losing motivation to make the drive. Is it worth it? I’d literally be driving down, grabbing my bottles, having a couple pours and driving the 3 hours back — I get it’s subjective, but ratings look only ok. My window is Thursday ...

No alcohol on this planet is worth a 6 hour round trip drive.

Thank you. I needed someone to talk some goddamn sense into me. Literally was going to be a solo round tripper to grab these two bottles maybe grab a shot or two of brews I’m marginally interested in trying and driving back ...

You’re incorrect and I’ll leave it at that. I’m not saying this beer is, I’m just saying you’re incorrect

Haha ... I was going to make that caveat to my reply ... there is definitely some shit that I’d make the Decorah trip for, but man ... I can’t seem to will myself into this one. And all I lose is $5 for the ticket I think. Am I making the right call?

I wish I could say for sure. My pickup is Thursday as well and I’ve successfully failed at all things TG related this year except this.

Me too - which makes me feel like I’m hitting on the ugly girl at last call when the lights turn on and my buddies are flagging me to get out - if it ain’t KBBS you don’t want dat Fluffernutter!!:rofl::rofl:

I just made the call - I’m skipping. My barometer is I have a cellar full of craziness and I wouldn’t even trade for these (not trying to minimize them! But racking and stacking it against a 6hr drive by myself has me pulling out!)

Not going to lie... The fact that my wife and I are both working from home and my kids have been doing remotely learning for the past month or so, I’d welcome those 6 hours of solitude in the car right about now.
