Has anybody seen Snowgoose Winter Ale in Montgomery County, MD this year? This was a winter seasonal by the Wild Goose brewery in Frederick many years ago. The internet suggests that a brewery on the Eastern Shore is still brewing it / brewing it again.

It's a nicely balanced winter ale, if you can find it.

Last I heard, their version of National Premium was contract brewed by Fordham & Dominion in Deleware. I'd expect the same is true of the reborn Snow Goose.

Yes, the National Brewing Company owns the rights to the Wild Goose Brewery and has reintroduced the Snow Goose and IPA so far. Available in Maryland. https://www.facebook.com/WildGooseBrewery

Picked up a pair of six packs in cans at Belby's. If you haven't been and are looking for beer from MD breweries, Belby's had a broad selection of locals. Snowgoose was in cans; not bottles, so it took me a few minutes to find.

For more on Belby's, they had 10lb CO2 tanks for trade-in and a few different varieties of BCS available.

Wow, blast from the past! I used to look forward to this every year, when winter/holiday seasonals were about the only seasonals. Sounds like it doesn't make it to DC, so may have to get up to MD to grab some.

We actually brew at the Oliver Brewing Company who specializes in British Style Ales and Ringwood Yeast. Wild Goose historically used Ringwood which is a bit tricky to say the least. Open Fermentation too.

My understanding is that for the Ringwood Yeast strain (e.g., Wyeast 1187) all you need is some patience: you give the primary fermentation sufficient contact time to 'clean up' the diacetyl it creates during the early portion of primary fermentation.

Do you need to do more than this?

One aspect that a local brewery likes about brewing their year-round ales with the Ringwood yeast is that it drops out well and the resulting beers are very bright & clear. Before the days of Juicy/Hazy this was a 'selling' feature.

    Cheers!
