After the past few weeks in WBAYDN, I have come to realize I have another controversial opinion, mainly I am on the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to the vast majority who love and buy SN Celebrator.

Will give it a second chance the next time I see it on draft, since I haven't had it in five years. I rated it Christmas Eve, so perhaps I would like it better fresher (unfortunately I did not mark the bottle date when I first started rating beers).

    Your Rating: 3.51 | rDev -15.8%

I like/love most Sierra Nevada other beers, except for Otra Vez. Also, 3.0 is my baseline, so I marked it above average, just not as high as most here and definitely not I would actively seek out in a world of prevalent 4.0 + beers.

    Well you're clearly a heathen

I'm back in after a 3 week break and I haven't even had a celebration yet this year. I need to rectify this post haste

    Yes.

And you could apply a 5% number to most craft beer IMHO. It's as if the average brewer has to add the extra alcohol to get us drunk faster, so we don't notice that we still can't brew like the Germans or English.

But then I'm a fan of true cask bitter in the sub 4% range and pils in the sub 5% range, so maybe it's just me.

If it's about ABV, then beer has lost anyway from start against whisky. Don't take a fight you can't win, old wisdom!

They also seem to start to die before the 6 month mark as well. I've had a couple of the Deep Orbit series and they are definitely better fresh.

Are you sure had Sierra Nevada Celebration and not Ayinger's Celebrator? That could have been part of the problem.

Although I'd still take issue with you not liking Celebrator either. So I guess it's a moot point.

You'll have to use the 2 point scale: 1 point if you can get it down, and another if you can keep it down. :sunglasses:

The celebrator must become the celebration.

Comments were for SN Celebration (3.25 / 3.5 / 3.5 / 3.75 / 3.5). Also, I stated I liked the beer. However, Fall is the peak time for the largest number of my favorite local releases (Spiteful 10/9 Bike Messenger Appreciation IPA, Revolution Deep Woods / GI Bourbon County releases and Revolution A Little Crazy).

Seems like there is a good number of people who really look forward to the release each year, and buy at least a six pack or case plus. Hope to pick up a single bottle soon or try on draft next year. Bell's Oberon (Spring) and Founder's Mosaic Promise (Summer) are the only two non local seasonal releases I buy each year (12/15 pack, respectively).

    I really like Ayinger's Celebrator (4.25 / 3.75 / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.25).

I would agree that this beer doesn't quite impress me. The flavors aren't pronounced or defined as an IPA. I like most SN beers: Pale Ale, Torpedo, Oktoberfest, but side by side in 2020 I prefer them to Celebration. Similarly, I gave it 3.6, but slightly lower than my baseline. (Agree, you might have to rethink bringing Ayinger into this haha)

After seeing other instances this year of people confusing the names of these beers... and after @TongoRad 's crass remark (), I knew I had to give this a shot even though I felt like it would be a waste of money.

My controversial opinion is that it was great. And here's a really controversial opinion: Sierra Nevada and Ayinger are two of my favorite breweries, but I don't really care for Celebration or Celebrator despite those beers possibly being the most "celebrated" from those breweries.

Put those two takes together and it's no surprise that I actually liked the 50/50 blend better than either beer. People who adore these two beers will likely have a less favorable take on a blend than myself.

I did this about a week and a half ago but didn't get around to posting. I'm tempted to repeat this next year to see if I reverse my position. Maybe it'll become my own annual holiday version of @JackHorzempa 's "Chocolate Pumpkin" blend. Stranger things have happened.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised. I have a number of times constructed posts with the intention of making fun of a way out there beer and before I hit the "post reply" button to conduct a web search to find that a brewery(s) had already made a beer I was going to joke about.

When it comes to making these weird beers I am reminded of a line from Jurassic Park:

Oh well, I suppose to each their own!?!

Hey now, celebration is a FRESH hop beer, not a WET hop! Although, we may summon some PNW'ers to explain (incorrectly ) how celebration is mislabeled and beers brewed with undried hops are fresh hop, not wet hop, and any examples to the contrary are the product of heathens!

Hmm, more ideas on how Sierra Nevada can expand their Celebration product line:
    • Brew an extra crispy version
    • Brew an actual wet hopped version - first release of the season
I sure that other folks can come up with their suggestions here.

    Cheers!

Back when it would have been trendy to do so, they released CeleBRUTion on draft. Yep, that one was what you're thinking it was. While I didn't dislike it, I didn't think it was a step up in any way.
