Has anyone heard what happened to the 2020 Great Lakes Blackout Stout release? It’s on their 2020 release calendar, but I haven’t seen anything about it. I tried emailing them about it, but I got a very generic answer about it being a pub exclusive with no plans to bottle it, as if it hasn’t been bottled and distributed for years. As my username suggests, it’s a personal favorite that I look forward to every year!

It was released in May. Pickup at their store after reserving a time slot online. Bombers only. I picked up four and have one left. Disappointed after the first two, especially the first one fresh. Had my 3rd few weeks ago and improved greatly.

It’s still behind the more popular barrel aged offerings. Would rather drink a deth’s tar or BCBS, but have to help keep the locals in business.

I think OP is referring to the regular non-BA Blackout Stout. This has typically been released in 4pks across their distro footprint like Nosferatu, etc.

Oops. Didn't notice that. I haven't seen the regular this year in stores. Normally see plenty at Giant Eagle for weeks after the release. Last release that I recall was in early November 2019.

One of my favorite non-BA stouts of the year, always grab at least one 4 pack. Hopefully it stil is released this year.

Looking at their twitter feed, they had the following response on a 2020 Blackout Stout inquiry.

Wow that's brutal. It's such a good beer.

I remember back in like... 2010ish when it was one of the highest rated beers in the world on this site. I found a single bottle at my local shop and was so psyched about it. I remember being blown away by the malt profile and the depth of flavor they were able to get into it.

    Such a great beer.

Back when Hoppin' Frog's B.O.R.I.S the Crusher was considered extreme and one of the best stouts anywhere. Oh, how times have changed...

I'm still saddened that I never got to try Kate the Great.

Same. Not sure I'm saddened, but would have been nice to have the chance. I never tried trading for one as that was one of the first beers I recall seeming "untouchable". Always assumed I would run into a bottle at a share at some point back then, but never did.

It’s a bummer to hear that, but thanks for the intel!

Oh man... I did not know this. I just figured that they were behind a bit due to COVID. I buy a couple of four packs every year. Great fresh and great for cellaring.
At least we had Hazecrap, er, Hazecraft...
