    Great to know! I will try that the next time I get my hands on it.

    Ok, I'll give it a try but I'm in a rural area and many of the stouts you mentioned are not in the local shops. Nevertheless . . . I would say Founders, Goose Island, Dark Horse, Sierra Nevada, Boulevard and Bell's. (I'm drinking a Bell's Expedition now.) I have been trying to get my hands on some Cigar City at Total Wine when I visit my daughter in NC but have not had any luck. Although we have Prairie in the area, I have not seen the stout. :slight_frown:

    Surprised nobody has mentioned Great Divide. Yeti is a classic and they have done so many variants with most being very good.

    Unpopular opinion but those of y’all who say founders and bells need to get out more

    Heineken : Beamish and Murphy;
    O'Hara : Leann Follain;
    Guinness : Extra Stout (the versions exported to the USA) and Special Export (the version exported to Belgium)
    Sierra Nevada : although I haven't seen it for a while in NJ

    And I've had the pleasure of sampling many of the variants. Good call.

    Those beers are definitely where i got my feet wet for stouts and are def so good. As always from the UK i never know how fresh they are. Knowing it does not matter as much with stouts as other beers but it is still a factor to me and with no dating i tend and do stay away and do. Maybe i should revisit in a store where the turnover is apparent

    This thread motivated me to pick up one of the pint sized bottles last night. No dust on it, which was encouraging. I’m going to take it right from my basement (roughly 55 degrees). I’m quite excited.

    Perhaps . . . But, we can only drink what is available in our area. :slight_smile:

    I also think Kane has to be mentioned. Their stouts are always very well done and, generally speaking, all of their barrel aged offerings are as well.

    True. I need to consider this. However, much of our local stuff is not well known in the country.
