Are there still problems with FedEx in VT?

The previous thread: WARNING about FedEx in Vermont has been locked so figured I'd open a new one to get recent opinions and experiences

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi,

Yes, they are known to search boxes. Destroy or ship back to sender. I was able to pick one up in person with my ID after a lot of talk with manager.

I just moved from NH/VT border. My shipments would go through VT hub almost always. I stopped using FedEx after 2nd issue a few years ago. I requested that senders use a different company. Never had an issue with USPS or UPS to my previous location.

I’ve recently had beer delivered via FedEx, but would be hesitant to send anything out through them especially if it was hard to replace. The FedEx hub in Williston, VT has been known to confiscate boxes but my last experience with that was over a year ago.

File a complaint with the company, send emails to the higher up imo. Luckily I’ve yet to have any discrepancies with any boxes from any carrier.

Unfortunately that won't work because shipping alcohol via any shipper without a license is against policy. As soon as you drop that box, your rights go out the window and you're taking a chance that it makes it to the destination. It all comes down to the specific employee that scans the boxes for liquid at that specific hub in VT. They can choose to pull it if they see the outline of the bottle on the screen, or they can let it go. I'm sure not all hubs do this, possibly just the ones closer to the border.

UPS and USPS are the way to go.

Just remember, if UPS finds out it’s beer they dump it all. No warnings, no refunds.

This isn’t necessarily true from experience. While not in VT, I did have a regular trader from MA send me some bottles and cans of treehouse. A bottle broke, and UPS actually repacked the beer in another box and I received it just fine, minus the broken bottle. Neither one of us could believe it

That’s great. I had a 12 box shipper coming my way a couple months back. Box got wet in the rain. UPS apparently tried to repack. Ended up dumping them all. (These were Cantillon, SP, HF etc). I won’t forgive them anytime soon.

Ugh, that’s a hard box to lose.

Ups has always repackaged my box and bagged it up if there was any damage to the bottles.

I've been using FedEx for the last year or so for shipping out. Never had any issues. I'm not sure if there's specific locations that are known for searching boxes or what not. I always preorder my labels and drop them off at a proxy location. I only use them for 12 shippers and I use USPS for their flat rate boxes for smaller trades/shipments. This has been working well for me, and I always make sure to package my boxes very well. I also don't try to mask any sounds either with tic tacs or something.
