Similar questions have been asked, but I think the answers need updating.

I like to have a beer in the evening and favor NEIPAs. But drinking a pint of higher abv pushes me close to the 2+ "drink" range and if I want a second beer, I can get near 5 drinks. I don't sleep well or feel great after that much alcohol.

So, I'm on a quest for really good, full-flavored, readily available beers in 12 ounce cans/bottles with ABV less than 7%, ideally closer to 5%. I find that tends to push me towards stouts, porters and other darker beers, which I do enjoy, but would love some IPA/NEIPA recommendations. I'm not looking for a watered-down, light session IPA.

All very subjective, I know, but thanks in advance.

Oskar blues Dales pale ale is at 6.5 I find it pretty tasty. Apa might be worth looking into not quite ipa but I think they are much better then session ipa.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. SNPA is an all-time classic. It's only 5.6% and it's distributed everywhere.

Sierra nevada pale ale, problem is getting it fairly fresh (l ess than 2 months). That is my idea for you.

Ps, it is an apa tho.

Grab some Celebration while it's still around. It's still drinking just fine. I also like Dogfish 60 Minute.

I feel exactly the same about consumption as you. I have found that I rarely drink more than one standard drink a night. I have sinus issues and if I overdue it I clog up and sinus headache ensues.

My solution has been almost all lager, if you want full flavor one try and find some dunkel or shcwarzbier. The other part has been to have a 12 oz reliable hoppy beer like Sierra, deschutes, or bells.

I may get slack for the this last part but because said hoppy beers are so affordable if I ever want a second drink I’ll open one of them and if I start to feel it I just don’t finish it. I’d rather waste half a beer than wake up with a pounding headache. Hope I helped a bit.

Few off the top of my head that would fall into the NEIPA category...
    Sloop Juice Bomb (6.5%)
TG Pseudo Sue (5.8%)-I think this is being distributed in 12oz cans now
    Firestone Walker Mind Haze (6.2%)

As @DavetotheB mentioned, Sloop packages Juice Bomb in 12 ounce cans. That is a 'winning' answer right there.

    Cheers to 12 ounce cans!!!!

I really wish more places would start canning their IPAs in 12 oz. Does anyone know why?

Is it cause they can charge more? 16 oz easier to come by? Do we have a definitive answer. If anything should be in 12 oz it is an 8% beer. Locally some put their flagship ipas in 12 oz but by in large it is always 16 oz.

The answer to OP’s question and many similar questions i have seen posted is to mix in a couple of Hamm’s (12oz) and enjoy a higher abv ipa or stout during your evening.

    The primary answer is yes.

The sad part, from my perspective, is that a segment of the craft beer market (i.e., Haze Bros) are now conditioned to think that 'better' beers come in the four-pack/16 ounce can format so they are like Pavlov's dog and attracted to this format.

Now, to the credit of Sloop Brewing they do make Juice Bomb available in 12 ounce cans but they choose to package their other products (e.g., the 'super sexy' DDH beers) in 16 ounce cans. These bigger cans are a twofer in that Sloop realizes more money on a per ounce basis and they make the Haze Bros happy.

There was a time, not so long ago, where craft breweries packaged their beers in bomber (22 oz. bottles) and this was a big rip-off to the consumer but a profit sending godsend to the breweries. It took several years but eventually consumers wised up and decided to stop buying beers in this format.

What do you think now? Will beer consumers such as the Haze Bros wise up and start to reject the four-packs/16 ounce can format?

    Cheers!

I guess time will tell @JackHorzempa id like to think so yes but you never know. If someone has only been brought up on pints can you get used to less beer? Not sure but I’ll be here to find out.

It seems the 16 oz fad has not slowed down at all except in some minor instance. I also recently saw industrial arts wrench 12 pack 12 oz cans. So maybe they’ll be the first to test the waters in this regard.

Well, for completeness and openness I will confess that from time to time I too purchase a beer brand in the four-pack/16 ounce format. For example a couple of weeks ago I bought myself a Christmas Present of Heady Topper (I will be starting a thread on this topic shortly) but by a large margin I mostly buy beers in the six-pack/12 ounce format. For example my most recent beer purchases were a six-pack of Sterling Pig Shoats Pilsner and a six-pack of Sterling Pig Le Cochran Noir - Schwarzbier. Kudos to Sterling Pig Brewing for providing beer in 12 ounce cans.

I will continue to reward breweries that package in 12 ounce can/bottles with the majority of my beer money and those breweries that insist on 16 ounce can will indeed get my money from time to time but very much less of it.

If I was truly a man of principle I would never, ever buy beers that are in the four-pack/16 ounce can format but what can I say:

Two 16 oz. cans of Pilsner Urquell is how you want to live. Drink for an extended period of time without messing up your body.

If you can get Three Floyd's, I'd recommend Zombie Dust and/or Alpha King

Since you are in New England, how about Smuttynose Finest Kind? That never disappoints.
