Never got to try PtY unfortunately. Maybe one day when FWIBF ramps up again...

Honestly I see your post all the time and you seem like a cool guy, if I get a case I’ll hit you up and we can make a straight forward trade for a bottle.

That would be awesome. Thanks for the offer!

For my understanding.....what are you valuing BBT at and RHF?

    Thanks

As a second opinion, I personally think RHF is more like 2/3 of the way to BBT accounting for the bourbon tax and what I’ve seen offered. I’d expect 2 RHF offered for BBT to instaclose. You’d still need a super solid plus though on top of a RHF to get it done.

Bourbon tax when trading up? Bourbon has a tax because it's basically just a good as cash, bbt is just as easy to move. I see your point but I just don't give much value to pedestrian bottles like rhf,etl,w12......

I would say yes there can be some degree of bourbon tax even when trading up. I think of the bourbon tax more of the idea that you can enjoy the bourbon over many sittings whereas for a beer, you have to consume it all at once. So if I spent the same amount on a beer and a bourbon, I’d get more enjoyment long term out of the bourbon and would be less likely to trade it.

Whether the “bourbon tax” is stronger than the “trade up tax” is hard to gauge and should be on a case by case basis. For this case though, speaking as someone with both 2x RHF and with BBT, it feels like too steep of an ask.

You raise a good point about those bourbons (W12, RHF, ETL), not being that crazy hard to come by, or insane in terms of flavor, especially in relation to say BTAC. However, I seem to consistently see some pretty darn generous offers from STL traders for those 3

The offer vs ask would have a large affect on this also.

Out of curiosity, where are those bottles easy to come by without a ridiculous markup?

I'm on long island where the markup is usually higher than secondary on btac, pappy, ofbb....but I always end up finding these bottles at close to msrp.

Not easy to come by, just significantly easier to come by in comparison to BTAC, etc. without the giant markup. I see plenty of people getting tip-offs of deliveries and showing up early at big chain stores and getting bottles around MSRP. That strategy has never really worked for me, and isn’t really “easy” either, but BTAC seems to be a different ballgame.

And with that....it is highly regional to find bottles "easy"

Could a Tête v18 magnum close for 750ml Tête plus something generous enough to close the cost gap? Any example of what a realistic wild or stout plus (from that general region) might be? Trying to figure out if the magnum would be worth it.

Pretty sure Tete mag can close 2 normal Tetes with a plus based on historical trades, but the question is whether cost and shipping is worth it...

You're not the first person to tell me this. I didn't believe it at first, but evidently I've grossly underestimated the demand of the magnum.

I'm just dying to try Tête, but a magnum would go to waste, with not enough people to split it with, so I'm much more interested in the 750ml. I'm dreading seeing the price tag for the 10 seconds it's available for, though.

I have a couple odd trade value questions.

I have randomly and accidentally collected some gangster FW boxed beers I’d we willing to part with as a set. Here’s what I have:
    Batch 4 (2014) Sucaba + 2016
    2014 Stickee Monkee
    2014 DBA
    Batch 1 (2013) Velvet Merkin + 2014 + 2015
    Helldorado 2015 + 2016
    2017 Bravo + 2017 Stickee Monkee

The other set I have is 2010-2020 Bigfoot.

What would sets like this trade for?

Tasty beers, but Very little value to the average trader. Take your shot of some stouts, sours or ipas.
