Cantillon, also known as the Brussels Museum of the Gueuze, is the last Lambic brewery in Brussels. Please use this thread to discuss their beers and bottle availability at the brewery and to go.

""But where are we ?", you will ask yourself.
Well, you are in a family brewery where Lambic, Gueuze, Faro and Kriek are made and where nothing has changed since 1900 when it was founded. The Van Roy-Cantillon family welcomes you and invites you to discover a fabulous world. Beers, tools and brewing process are still the same as in the beginning."

what is everyone's thoughts on a winter pack?

They’ve never done one since they started doing packs in 2016 and they’ve been fairly consistent in following patterns with online sales. Further, it would result in a bunch of people trying to ship during winter, which would then result in many bottles freezing, people getting angry, and just a total mess. But given the circumstances of Covid I suppose you can never count anything out.

To add, I would think a spring pack would be a lot more likely, though definitely not a guarantee. They seem very sensitive to people shipping at times that could damage their beer (e.g., they highly discouraged people shipping over the summer when it was too hot). By the springtime there should be plenty of new special beers for a pack like St Lam, Vig, and possibly the new Loerik. Also hoping LPG makes a comeback, it's been forever since a release.

I’m not on Facebook. Is there another good way to get a notification before the sale?

No, Facebook seems to be the only way they post sale links these days unfortunately.

Damn. When they post the sale is it live right away or is it for a future time?

They usually post ahead of time the details of an upcoming sale (no link), then have another post with the link when it’s already live.

Even when you have the link it’s normally like 15,000 people trying for 1,000 packs so they’re not easy to get regardless. Some like the Aronia/Magic/Menu set are even smaller. That one was 400 packs.

It seems like you have to know it’s coming and already have an account with payment info already entered to have a chance. Without Facebook I won’t really have a chance. Do you know what service they’ll use for the next sale? If I recall, the last one didn’t go well so I have a feeling they may be changing to a new host.

Every sale they've ever done has had the host site crashing (except possibly the LPG/Fou/50N Fall '16 sale, and the '17 Vendages Solidaires sale), so it's not clear if they'll be changing their host. To be honest, I love the way they've done the sales because with the sites crashing it ends up being combination of skill, luck, and sheer effort in getting bottles. Sure it can be frustrating to some, but I can't think of a more fair way to do it.

Really not a single sale has gone well so I wouldn't ever expect the next one to. That said, I recommend making sure you're trying on a good internet connection (maybe the office connection?) and be prepared to try continually refreshing the page for 1-3 hours once it goes live.

A suggestion: could you make a Facebook account just for the purpose, follow Cantillon's page (to get notifications) and not give Zuckerberg any of your actual information? Other than having a friend tell you, that's really going to be the only way you are going to find out about these things in advance of the actual sales event.

Guess who's back? After 20 years we're releasing another Loerik!
A Loerik is a blend of Lambics that is intended to be Gueuze.
However, for some reason, the beer takes more time than usual to ferment. When we make a Gueuze blend, the beer needs months before it is ready for sale. For the Loerik, the fermentation is so slow, that years are necessary to obtain the same result.
Because the yeast isn't working as hard as it should be, we consider it a lazy beer, or Loerik, in Brussels dialect.
We can't explain why, and naturally we can't intentionally produce such a beer. A Loerik is always the result of chance with a beautiful final result! The slow fermentation gives a lot of complexity and delicacy to the beer.
This Loerik was bottled on 27 December 2018. Limit in store is 3 x 75cl bottles per person, 10€ per bottle.
A second slow-fermenting blend, so perhaps also another Loerik, is slated for upcoming release as well, this time in 37,5cl bottles…

    Sounds promising

Never mind I see that update. Too bad it’s not in a pack. If someone is looking to get rid of theirs (haha yeah right) let me know.

Cue all the folks who wouldn't give Grand Cru Bruocsella the time of the day now sending away everything they have for a 3pp 750ml bottle that will be released again in 375ml bottles!

What else do they have available to go? You may not have noticed but did they have this one to drink in?

I’m talking to a couple friends to see if I can put together a trip to Brussels this summer or fall. Obviously this’ll be long gone by then.
