Hey people, its the second weekend in January - when do people want to do the barleywine tasting? Should we push it off to early February? (not sure if people are doing dry January or not)

A barleywine tasting is about exciting as it gets! Can't wait! @SierraNevallagash - do we have a date? Next weekend?

This will be awesome! I wont even have to shop for anything, as my cellar shelf is stocked with barleywines always!
@SierraNevallagash really looking forward to this one!!

Are we all ready? I wanted to give everyone enough time after Christmas to have a palate cleanserl.

If everyone still in favour of moving forward (and any permission I might need) then i will go ahead and draft up a rough outline, and we can settle on it.

How does everyone feel about next Friday the 13th? Not set in stone, just an idea.

God, me too. I've been holding onto some heavy hitters for awhile now! I may not even know what to open! I've been deliberately avoiding barleywines for a month, because I intend to go all out here.

    But, but, but... Oktoberfest!

If you want to kick it off Friday, thats fine, but it should continue through the weekend - especially since these are going to be high ABV beers so you'll want to allow more time for people to participate.

Also, I vote for later in the month or the first weekend in February.

First weekend in February might make for some interesting posts with several folks coming off a dry January and jumping back into double digit beers with newly lowered tolerances...

I like the potential that this scenario creates! And definitely also support multiple days to account for the big ABVs, common for the style!

Ya I'd also vote for pushing it back to at least the weekend of the 22nd or 29th. Seems like a good idea to give at least a month between the tastings. Either way, I'm working weekends these days so I'll try to squeeze one in at night. I'll have to take a gander at the shelves and see what I can find, I hope I can find sucaba

Except for the beers that I have tucked away aging, I have nothing but barley wines at home. Am I doing it backwards?

IMO, this coming weekend is too soon.

    BCBS: Nov 27-29
    Holiday/Winter beers: Dec 18-20

If we do barley wines Jan 15-17, that will be 3 tastings of big beers in 7 weeks.

Damn, I don’t have any BW here, no idea whats available that has some local flavor to it. I’m out hunting beers anyway so we’ll see.

By the time we hit March it'll just be every weekend.

But I do agree with your point - I tend the think the last weekend in January or the first weekend in February would be perfect
