Dale, FWIW that is the freshest I have ever seen Jever (i.e.,
4 months old). That has only occurred once to the best of my recollection. I have not seen a Jever less than 6 months old in a couple of years. If I do I will buy a six-pack.
I am kinda in that same situation. My last Pilsner purchase was a six-pack of Sterling Pig Shoats Pilsner which was less than two weeks from canning. That beer is excellent and I paid less than $8.50 for it. A classic win-win situation.

    Cheers!

Absolutely, if I’m a retailer I start looking at turns like any shelf item. Hey if enough are buying old Urquell it’ll be on the shelf for them, we won’t but but then again to 99% of the world a beers a beer. They don’t go check dates and if you sell them a sucky enough beer they won’t buy it anymore, and they won’t even know why the beer sucks.

A 3 month old Jever is a gift from the beer Gods; they don't come around all too often and you would be remiss if you passed on it.:sunglasses:

I’ve never seen one under 15 months old which is their Best Buy date. Maybe they should bump that to 18 to stay within date.

Nah. I would only buy at 5 months if I was in a particularly whimsical mood; anything over that and I'm not even considering it.

But under 3 months means drop everything else and get a case.

And unfortunately the "Gods" have not smiled upon me this freshly. As I posted above I once was able to purchase a four month old six-pack. In the past I used to utilize 6 months as my cut-off but I have not even seen a Jever this fresh in the past two years.

Thank goodness for very high quality, fresh and economically priced locally produced German Pilsners (and I have many brands to pick from).

    Cheers!

I've never seen nevermind had Jever.
No offers please to anyone out there...
Sadly, my mainstay of German Pilsners has not been on the shelf for a couple of weeks now.

Edit: That would be the Veltins.

If you ever see it in your travels and the "Gods" smile on you with the product being fresh I would encourage you to buy some. Some of the features I appreciate about this beer:
    • It is bone dry and upon each sip you just want another.
    • If the beer is fresh upon the initial pour I pick up some sulfur dioxide (a struck match smell) which I really, really like. It diminishes fairly quickly (by the third or fourth sip) but I appreciate it when it is there.
    • It has a nice bitterness level (maybe something like 35 IBUs) which I appreciate
    • It has...
I just wish I could find this beer fresh in my area.

    Cheers!

I messaged weihenstephaner USA last week about availability in my area and they told me early February. This gives me hope maybe sooner.

The first time I noticed Jever I bought 2 half liter cans (pretty sure that was the size) not knowing that the best buy date was 15 months after canning.

FWIW -- I saw that Paulaner.com has a beer finder. The Pils is actually at a retailer not far from me, but I'm surprised it's not closer.

Well, the good news is that they now list both the packaged on date and the best by date. Not that this is all that helpful if the beer is > 6 months from bottling. :flushed:

    Cheers!

Can't wait to try the Helles. Wonder what the pricing will be like on these?

I picked up a few four packs last night, along with a bunch of other stuff, but I believe they were about $12 per pack.
