Thanks for posting! I didn't have a chance to make it to Water Street last trip, but will definitely visit Mojave Brewery next trip to Vegas. I've been to nearly every brewery in the Vegas Valley and never come across a cask handle at a brewery or bar.

We have nearly 100 breweries in Chicago with over 60 with taprooms/brewpubs. Goose Island (Clybourn), Revolution (Milwaukee Brewpub) and Alarmist (Northwest Side) are the only three in the city that had regular cask beers on tap before the closures. Hope all three handles are restored once breweries are allowed to reopen to in person indoor service later this year.

Do you have any cask conditioned California brewery suggestions beyond Yorkshire Square. which I hope to visit next trip? I believe AleSmith is the only California brewery I've visited to date with a dedicated cask handle.

Back on topic for the thread, I visited Nevada Ale Works in October after their opening and they had a great rye offering. Beer District Brewing was on point as well, two great new 2021 Las Vegas Breweries. Hope Beer Zombies Summerlin will be open as well next trip in once things start to reopen out West.

    Cheers!

I’m not sure but it may be a license issue in Nevada. We have some weird rules here because of the power of the casino lobbyists. Believe breweries can’t serve their own food on site and cannot have video poker or gambling of any kind. When I was at Mojave Months ago they said they had a unique license, only one in Nevada, that allows them to sell beer and cider (think they might’ve said mead too although to my knowledge they haven’t made any mead yet). Perhaps this broader license extends to cask while the other breweries can’t do cask.

Or I could be dead wrong and any brewery in Nevada can do cask but choose not to.

A couple I can name that has cask would be Beachwood Long Beach, Green Cheek, Highland Park. There’s more.

I’m not a lawyer or familiar with specific laws, but I don’t believe there are any limitations in terms of cask vs. draft, only on the number of gallons breweries can sell direct to consumers, which increased from 15,000 gallons to 40,000 in 2017 via HB 431. There is a 5,000 barrel limit on onsite sales, 1,000 barrels via onsite kegs.

Also, perhaps there are additional hurdles a brewery has to meet to gain a license for onsite gambling, or these breweries have been grandfathered in since all have been around for decades, but there are several breweries which sell beer on site and allow gambling including the following:
    • Ellis Island
    • Triple 777 / Boar’s Head Bar (Owned by Boyd’s / Main Street Station)
    • Chicago Brewing Co. (4 Queens and in Downtown Summerlin)
    • Big Dog’s (on Rancho)
    • PT Brewing Co (several locations)
My brother moved to Vegas a decade ago, and my trips there shifted from gambling to visiting and hitting craft breweries a few years ago. I enjoy the non smoking aspect of breweries without gambling, and gladly pay for beers in smoke free brewpubs vs. getting “free comped beers” gambling.

Had my first “craft” beer about 15 years ago at the Wynn comped on the floor (SN Pale Ale). Goose Island Bourbon County was my first Illinois craft beer.

Also, thank you @dcgunman , have been to the Long Beach Beechwood and Green Cheek in Costa Mesa once, will definitely seek and order a cask pour next visit.

We hit Scenic Brewing when we were out in Vegas the first week of December. They had food, gambling, and some decent brews on the flight I did. I liked their milk stout enough that I brought a growler back to Denver. Of course, I brought back much more of Ellis Island's Holiday Nog! (c:
