Last weekend the wife and I went thrift store shopping and I happened upon a few good beer glasses for dirt cheap. A couple of them were Micheal Jackson Beer hunter glasses for 49 cents apiece which I immediately recognized as a complete steal. All in all I walked out with six really decent glasses for under 4 dollars. I am not sure, but the Beer Hunter Glasses seem to be crystal since they ring quite nicely when bumped. I feel like I really lucked out that day since I walked into the thrift store without high hopes of scoring great glassware. Was wondering about others experiences of happening upon good buys for beer glasses in thrift stores, garage sales, etc. Hope everyone is having a great evening and may the gods of beer be with you.

Edit, I am just figuring out how to use photobucket and the pics of all the beer glasses on the shelves are not from the thrift store run, just two pics of the ones on the coffee table.

The beer gods were definitely smiling upon you- great score.

These days I am happy with my Dollar Tree elongated snifter/tulipy stems. I used to have a lot of great, thin-walled crystal ones that always got broken for one reason or another- mostly when cleaning them, to my great chagrin- so I have decided to become practical lately. Now I'm just keeping good all-purpose glasses in stock, and if they break I don't sweat it.

Every wednesday at one of my local beer bars they have "steal the glass" night. They feature a beer from a brewery and serve it in the breweries glassware, you can "steal" it for $2. Scored one of these last week on FW 16th anni night. Love it!

I usually go to my local Goodwill store about once a month to check out glassware. I go when I'm near it and usually about 1 out of 4 times i find something very nice for under 99 cents.

I went to a thrift store and found some brandy snifters, a set of four for 3 bucks, I bought it, and they have a very similar shape to the delirium tremens glass I drank out of once at a bar. It is certainly a welcome upgrade to the one pint glass I've had up until now.

A couple of years ago I stopped by a grocery store that was going out of business and was selling everything 90% off. I was able to get a pair of Spiegelau tulip and tall pilsner glasses for 4$ total. I think a buck a piece for a Spiegelau glass is a good deal.

I had no clue there were Beer Hunter glasses. Very cool.

My best find was probably a St. Bernardus Watou goblet for $0.99 at Goodwill.

agreed on this. my favorite snifter is this vastly oversized ridiculous thing i got at goodwill for 25 cents. it's super thin and cavernous, i think it could hold 2 beers if i wanted it to. i think i find at least an interesting glass (although maybe not "nice") every time i'm in a thrift shop, although i have been trying to limit myself to stemware these days...

Pretty much all of my glassware has come from Goodwill or the Salvation Army. I've been able to find some nice New Belgium glasses, and stuff from Michelob, Sam Adams, and the like. It seems they are always in pairs and about .75 a piece. I've also been to a few antique stores where they were asking something like $11-$15 for a Sam Adams glass...yikes!

Went to a local restaurant for the first time and noticed that they had the Stemmed Goose Island Matilda glass sitting behind the bar. I asked the girl tending bar if they were for sale, as it seemed they weren't being used, she said she would go ask her manager. When she returned and said they were $1 each, I almost fell out of my chair. I bought 6 of them.

Bars are always fantastic sources. There is one craft-beer focused neighborhood bar/grill that I frequent that I've gotten quite a bit of glassware from. I always offer to pay for the glasses they've given me, but they never have taken it. Instead, I always add extra to the tip.

I was in a goodwill the other day and a guy walked by me with a basket FULL of Chimay glasses. He had cleared them out, but I did find a super thich glass chalice that weighs a ton. I think I could drop this thing on concrete and it would still hold together.
