This one is incredibly unique and it’s categorized as zwickel here but this is a landbier which falls into the category. For those who don’t know, a landbier is essentially the “house beer”. similar to a “house saison” aka Allagash White with its unique to allagash yeast and Jacks Abby House Bier. Which he classifies as Landbier unique to them brewed without stylistic guideline. Every one is unique and different. Varying colors, flavors, weight.....everything. Very fun and interesting. You get the point.

Hazy bronze. Amber. Smells of raw honey. Brown bread. Wood. Pear. Chestnut. Almonds. The taste follows with pear, honey, almonds, kings hawaiian bread. Tinge of alcohol. Full bodied. Big. Creamy. Big yeast character giving off apple sauce and pear. A tiny touch funky. Barnyard esque. I’d call it rustic. Not what I expected at all. This is a pretty great beer.

 

Good day BAs! Off to a dreary and chilly start - the weather guessers are suggesting rain/freezing rain/snow by afternoon and steadily falling temperatures as we slip back into winter. Today's New Breakfast Beer:



Seems like a watered-down version of Space Cake. 3.42, rDev -8.1%.

 

Wow this is amazing, might be the best meerts ever. The flavor it extracts from the fruit and funk is great!

 

This is a really fine beer! It is made by Veltins (they are based in Meschede-Grevenstein).

Snowy morning in Minnesota.

 

Stayed up late (for me) with Mrs. Z last night watching tv...she said she had a good birthday...I slept in this beautiful sunny 55° morning. Dogs taken care of, but lots of kitchen clean up still...regardless, it’s coffee time - perhaps my favorite non barrel aged coffee stout - Péché Mortel:



Bottled 6/3/17. Poured at 57°. Coffee bean nose, bittersweet dark chocolate and espresso taste. I feel like I’m ready to tackle the world (or at least a sink full of dirty dishes)!

Kostritzer Shwartzbier.
4.8% abv
Germany.

Pitch black. Chino khaki head. Smells of roasty coffee. Noble hop character. Taste is tangy, roasty malts. Pumpernickel bread. Burnt toast. The feel is crispy and super clean. The flavor and feel disappears in the swallow it’s so very clean.

 

Continuing to deplete my coffee beer stash while waiting for the plows to fill in the end of my driveway.

 

I very much enjoyed it and glad to find it within date parameters. It caught me completely off guard it’s very unique.

 

I’m making progress with this morning’s cleanup...I’m Jonesing for some chocolate/fudge...my sister had delivered to Mrs. Z for her birthday a sliced chocolate Babka from Reisman’s Bakery in Brooklyn NY, UPS delivered yesterday...so I’ll join @nruhlig in drinking a KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge stout:



Bottled 10/15/20. Poured at 59°. The Babka and beer compliment each other so well!...my mouth is in heaven (my waistline is aghast)...Cheers bar mates!
