I looked through the CBC Hickory beers. Nothing that really caught my fancy even after looking them up. Almost feels like they’re pushing their non-popular inventory to shipping. Same for Houston outside of some JK and Yellow Rose.

Any MA breweries shipping within MA other than Trillium, Notch, River Styx?

Honest question: What does Lamplighter do well?

Their label art is neat and the tasting room is a cool spot, otherwise I've found their beers to be very average

That's fair. On their website home page there's a picture and in that picture, two people are hugging. I miss hugging.

I looks like they have a ton of different styles. I like that.

Hugging aside, I think @Rysk22 hit the nail on the head. For me, Lamplighter does a lot of different styles that are quite good, not great. The tasting room is a cool spot, though it can be a pain to navigate when it's crowded as it's not a big space and a difficult layout.

I particularly like their sours, and their IPAs are also good.

Theakston will ship anywhere in the world allowed by law (or so it seems), which probably means no chance in hell it could be shipped to MA. Too bad. Would enjoy a whole bunch of Old Peculiar.

I take it you've never been there hoping to get a bar seat and try some new beers, only to realize the bar is full of people drinking coffee and editing their podcast that nobody listens to.

Also much of the bar space is taken up by “artisan” chocolate makers selling small candy bars for $8.

YES. I went there once and that place has the WORST clientele . I know it's cliche to bash on hipsters, but man what a brutal crowd at that bar.

I remember a woman very sternly told me to move (as in don't go near her) so there would be no chance of beer getting near her laptop. The entitlement of some people...

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and privilege...it’s very “Cambridge”.

I do like going there though, but if you’re hipster averse you can walk up the street to CBC for the exact opposite atmosphere.

When I lived around the corner from Lamplighter, I'd go there for coffee to go and CBC for beer. I never went to Lamplighter on a Friday/Saturday night when there would be lines out the door. Even on weekend afternoons, the vibe was strange.

Seems like they were/are trying to cater to too many audiences simultaneously—and they just don’t have the space to run a cafe/taproom hydrid.

I think this is accurate. They didn't have that many tables, but they had board games. They had couches that like one person would be sitting at. It was an inefficient use of space. They did open up the back I believe on the weekends to get more folks in the door. I never was determined enough to go as I could just as easily go to Hobo or CBC.
