-a quick trip to Sand City afforded me some special flavors. A Diamond in the Rough is a fantastic DIPA. Cheers

This can says Korean Rice Beer. This is not beer lmao.

    Makku
    Makgeoli (rice beer)
Made with rice cane sugar and nuruk (a rice culture and yeast)

Murky eggshell white. Smells of sugar, white rice. Cream. Vanilla. White wine. Flavor follows exactly as I describe the smell. Tangy. Good carbonation. Thin side of medium mouthfeel. Pretty wild. But not a beer.

I'm having a Cape May White from Cape May Brewing. It's a Belgian style wheat ale. The main characteristic is that it's light. Light aroma, light taste and light feel. There are orange, coriander and lemon notes. I have generally liked Cape May's beers, but this one is a bit of a miss for me.

Just finished over an hour of shoveling. More than half a foot of snow and the Mrs still wants to drive into Chicago for a family gathering celebrating her brother’s promotion to the Chicago Police K-9 unit. Yay me.

Almost finished drinking both of these beers, a cross post from the Barleywine thread:

At the very real risk of being useless all day, my vertical (and side by side) - Bigfoot (2014) and Bigfoot (2019):

    Bottled 12/10/13 and 11/19/18. Poured at 56 degrees. Beers purchased in 2014 & 2019.

    Both beers:

Coppery deep amber color with excellent clarity; amazing rocky beige head and heavy ring.

2014 - medium minus heavy lacing.
2019 - medium plus heavy lacing and much longer cap retention; both had medium heavy legs on swirl.

2014 - Caramel, earthy/floral hops nose with some oxidation; low fruity esters; alcohol.
2019 - Same, but no oxidation and medium fruity esters; stronger alcohol in nose as well.

2014 - Minimal hop flavors other than bitter; semisweet caramel; some figgy plum pudding; bitter dull finish.
2019 - Some citrus/orange peel hop flavors, no oxidation, semisweet caramel and very bitter; fig and molasses middle; toffee on backend.

2014 - Smooth, medium full body; minimal warmth yet slightly astringent/phenolic; moderate minus carbonation.
2019 - Same, but the feel is smoother and more rounded, with less phenolic bite on the tongue.

Overall, both beers look amazing and are virtually identical at mid glass:

2014 - Long, dry bitter linger; reminds me of a “hot” 1-2 years old DFH 120 minus the oxidation.
2019 - I actually found this beer a bit sweeter (mild oxidation on the 2014?), which better balanced the aggressive hop bitterness; this beer was maltier and fruitier, and more pleasurable to drink...

In conclusion, the older beer was very good, but a sweet spot may be in the 5 +/- range.

I may be napping very soon... Cheers!

I don’t know what to say about that, uh, beverage. I’d try it, but don’t think I could drink a whole glass of that spooge water.

Second blind today from @Justonemore91 .

L - 2-finger intensely dense pink head just doesn’t want to fade. Eventually craters down in the center, leaving gobs of pink lacing. Body is an intimidating, opaque, jammy magenta. Also you can audibly hear those bubbles popping. Loudest beer ever.

S - jesus. Berries. Maple. Vanilla. Brown Sugar. Intense nose.

T - mixed-berry pie with maple syrup and brown sugar glaze. Vanilla, honey?, perhaps some graham cracker. It has a distinct pie taste to it. Guessing blackberry (and perhaps cherry) as the dominant berry.

F - gloopy, near-full body with barely any carb.

O - I’m guessing this is another crazy Evil Twin sour, given the lack of carb and intense nose/taste. Even More Blackberry Pie JREAM? Whatever it is, it’s crazy.

Pretty close! It was Evil Twin, but this time a Trillium cover. And it’s raspberry, not blackberry. Another amazing beer though. I feel like I’m being treated to a “best of 2021” tasting. Thanks so much Ray!

I guess you guys never had rice beer, (it’s that a Philthy thing), time to wake up and smell the coffee (or should it be time to wake up and smell the rice! :grinning: ). Cheers!
