Loyal Legion is a couple of pub crawls by itself.

i moved to multnomah village a few years ago and the beer scene within a 10 min drive has gotten exponentially better ever since. coincidence?? i think not

The wife and I moved into the area as well, back in Fall 2016 (we're over by Lewis & Clark college - very near the old MofC location on SW Terwiilliger). It's a nice, fairly affluent area, and so I was puzzled the beer scene out here wasn't better. Same with the restaurant scene out this way.

Long story short, the restaurant scene could be better, but it has improved significantly since we got here (Moonlight Mediterranean Grill is a huge addition to the area), but the beer scene has really taken off. John's really upped their game when they put in a tap system, and having the Level Brewing outpost right in the village is a bonus. NW Growlers on MacAdam continues to shine, and I confess I'm pretty excited about the new Breakside and Loyal Legion outposts. It just gets better and better out this way.

The good beer cluster around Ex Novo is going to be pretty amazing by summer, and the wife and I are quite happy about that. Especially since the area is about a 5-minute walk from the Beaverton Central MAX station.

(Side note: I'm assuming that we'll have had both COVID vaccinations by then. I hope that's a safe assumption.)

Fellow lager fiends, Arch Rock is now canning Gold Beach Lager. I am quite excited at this development.

I saw that! Always wanted to try it. Added a can to the Uptown order I'm picking up tonight.

@John_M, @vurt, @jason_nwx- run, don't walk to your nearest Market of Choice. They are having a 25% off beer sale this weekend. Including fresh 6 packs of Pallet Jack. There was a fair bit left at Cedar Hills.

Agreed. At some point, between the ATF (exploding cans!), FDA( alcoholic Jamba Juice? What about the children?!), fair or not, the entire industry is heading towards a rude awakening, not unlike Juul and their I'll.

I rode my bike over there this morning. Much faster than walking. Much easier than running.

I did not find any Pallet Jack*, but I did treat myself to a 4-pack of The Abyss. At 25% off, it's like one of the bottles was free!

(*We did find some Pallet Jack at ABV. It was canned 10 days ago. It's...so...beautiful...)

There's a truck full of Heady Topper and Focal Banger headed to Portland tomorrow. The Beermongers, Hoplandia and John's have confirmed they're getting some. And Mongers are willing to sell by the case.

yeah this one hurts for sure. I took a job downtown from 2009-2015 and this coincided with an uptick in my curiosity around craft beer. I was starting to order the higher ABV or experimental beers when i went to brewpubs and i frequented hair of the dog which was right across the bridge.

a coworker told me about Baileys and we quickly started making it a weekly (sometimes multiple times a week) after work stop. I had so many awesome beers there. I think the first DeGarde beers, Bu Weisse and Loak were tapped there and i tried them both side by side.

then when upper lip opened up i would use my corporate card and take my friends there for "business meetings".... man we drank some awesome beer up there. A Deal with the Devil, Bo and Luke, vintage offerings from all over the globe.

sigh...... Covid sucks, and the city of Portland sucks for pretty much abandoning downtown and letting it go to hell

Probably not the right time or place to discuss this, but your impression closely mirrors my own. Like a lot of people I gather, my wife and I have pretty much stopped visiting the downtown area. A lot of places are closed of course, but a considerable portion of the downtown area looks like it's been completely trashed.

I'm hoping one of our favorite places downtown will be able to re-open soon (Oregon Wines on Broadway), but even when it does, I'm not sure I'll be able to talk my wife into going (even though she's a huge supporter of the owner). Aside from how dirty and trashy downtown has become, she's told me it just doesn't feel safe any more. She's worried our car will be broken into or vandalized. Unfortunately, it's probably a legitimate concern...

ive driven through downtown (the whole downtown, not just a few blocks) probably 5-10 times in the past 6 months, and also did a few bike rides with my family around the waterfront/inner eastside/pearl. its legitimately awful. i have a few friends that still worked down there but the companies decided to relocate to the burbs/camas/vancouver. 2 of those companies sent out emails to the employees to take a vote on staying or going and an overwhelming amount of the women said they no longer felt safe. the sections Northwest of burnside and below 9th avenue are in particularly rough shape, especially at night time.

all thats to say, i think many other downtown establishments are going to see a continued sharp drop in patronage. I worry about Higgins especially...... i would be really sad if they went under.

We still do occasional take out from Higgins. They seem to be doing OK with that. I agree with you though... It would be a huge loss if Higgins went belly up.

Uptown has Heady for sale on their website now. Arch Bridge did too, but sold out - they still have Focal Banger last I looked.
