Second pour of Portified (bottle now open four days). The sweetness upfront is a little more pronounced and cloying than the first pour (kinda in line with what I expected port to be like though). In that regard I liked the first pour more. BUT overall it has opened up A LOT and all the flavors are magnified big time. Bold and rich.

I tried my included Portified BT last night. It was very good, but for the price I don't know if I prefer it to prior iterations of port-BA BT or to just a normal, good port wine.

Peter Veeder kinda opened my eyes to the way these BT-wine hybrids could add up to more than the sum of their parts - Yount and Elizabeth Rutherford were certainly good, but also they were just kinda interesting experiments to try that were something different, Veeder was the first one I had where I was like "damn, I really want to drink more of this". Similarly, I think Portified is a cool first step of this kind of style, but not yet something that really nails this combination of flavors it's going for (or at least, not at the standard demanded by $3 per ounce).

Per the TTB: Natural flavors "must contain a natural source of the named material and must be an all-natural product. Any flavor materials present must be derived from the named ingredient."

In other words they're using a natural vanilla flavoring, they aren't scraping caviar out of vanilla beans.

Agree on Chew On This: it's a better Atta. Very excited it's being rebrewed this year. It's got blackberry along with the boysenberry. Plus lactose and granola in addition to the vanilla.

This! Very excited. Antojitos Licuados is probably in my top 5 favorite beers list!

Nice, I'll be picking up this coming week and have a bottle or 2 of it waiting!

Anyone tried Natty Noir yet? I’m curious if it’s more beer than wine, or wine than beer.

That's the one you want - with the "U" shaped latch - designed for Champagne and can wrap around Wax and still seal, even if the lip of the glass is not exposed.

There's also these butterfly style ones that work equally well on non-wax bottles, but you need to peel away the wax for them to catch the ridge of glass to clasp onto.

The U shaped one works slightly better on 375s.

I have a bunch of them, and even have two I've put some masking tape on indicating they are for sour beers. Not sure if overnight would be enough to ignite a new fermentation with residual brett or whatever, but I figure why risk it.

Yeah that Winco one is like mine. Bruery used to sell branded ones. I actually have success clamping the wings into wax and that holds secure... Provided wax hasn't become brittle and cracks. Where I have issue is with the plastic capsule wrapped necks. Those seem to be more slippery for the wings to hold.

The champagne stoppers work well on nearly any bottle. If it doesn't want to grab the lip of the bottle I just wrap a rubber band around the winglets to hold it in place.

A year ago I would have disagreed with you but haven't been too impressed with some of the recent ones: Ah fudge, both churriosities, and the pago pago. I actually liked the new Love Bites more then last years though. Most recent one to impress me was the Pistachio Mustachio

I liked it but was probably my least favorite Bakery.

Opened Furst with some friends over the weekend. Everyone that was there are the kind of people that have lost faith in most Bruery beers, but they were very impressed with it. Most comments were things along the lines of, "this isn't neapolitan ice cream, but it's the best strawberry stout I've had." and I agree, not neapolitan, but damn that strawberry is fiiiine in that beer.

Some tasting notes on the most recent releases:

Mai Zombie - Mmmm... like everyone else has said, the Bruery 100% nailed the cocktail. I was a bit hesitant about the rum barrel aging as that can be good or go horribly wrong - especially with spiced rum. But this was on the mark and delicious! And yeah, it tastes nothing like beer but that's ok . I loved Geriatric Hipster Club and The Dodie and now once again the Bruery has perfected a cocktail beer. Glad I'd bought an extra and now with the refresh, I'll buy one more.

Portified Black Tuesday - another mmmm... and again I was hesitant because although Port barrel-aged BT is my favorite, I really do not care for the wine-beer hybrids. Upon first sip when the beer was still cold I thought I could detect the wine component in there, kind of stand-alone, but as it warmed up it all came together as a really nice port barreled BT. The second night was much the same but it seemed a bit sweeter with a definite prune taste upfront. Curious to see what it pours like this evening. I also bought a second bottle and may buy one more with the refresh. It is pricey but OTOH I expect it to last four nights, so...

Agreed about the value. I just added my tasting notes and although I really enjoyed the Portified, I think it's probably even with regular Port BT, in terms how *good* it is, although I'd say that regular Port BT is more "Beer" that Portified which is pretty much like drinking Port, once it warms. Neither is as good Port that came in 2020's Party Pack, though!
