Ever posted on ISO:FT and thought to yourself "This one is a sure thing, i'll just wait on the PM's to roll in" and they never came?

I'm not saying that I'm a trading veteran or anything, but with around 40 trades under my belt I think I have a decent grasp on bottle value. But I've twice posted FT: Black Tuesday & BA Sexual Chocolate ISO: King Henry & Darkness and not even gotten a sniff. I don't THINK that I'm way off because I've traded a BT for KH straight up before & traded a BASC for Darkness straight up before. Is pairing bottles to try and save myself some shipping $ holding this one up? Or am I asking for too much?

Anyone else ever had a trade that they were confident in get *crickets*?

it's probably the combo. not everyone has a deep cellar with multiples both of those bottles. i happen to have both, but only 1 of each. would not trade either, nonetheless together. i'm sure i'm not the only person in that situation. trading is hard

I dont think its the bottles you are offering, but maybe just asking for the combo. I'm surprised nobody has taken you on that trade though.

Maybe offer those two bottles and possibly anything else you are willing to throw in and say you're iso of KH and Darkness and would ideally like both bottles in the same trade, but willing to break it up if needed.

I had a BA that told me he got crickets on offering Abrasive for Pliny $4$, which I was shocked by.

I think that this is an appropriate place to repost this link:

Remember: just because a trade is fair/even doesn't mean that someone is obligated to take you up on it, or that the right people have seen it. In commodities trading, you have to make the deal worth it to the other person. A swap of equal-value beers may not be worth it to the small pool of people that have disposable King Henry and Darkness since King Henry may continue to appreciate in value while the beers you are trading will likely continue to be released annually. I don't remember where I was going with this, something about trading relationships, nevermind. That is all.

I was thinking the same thing about the trade, but did think that maybe someone would have the desire... I am still interested to see other trades that people thought would be golden, and got no response.

I tried multiple times to trade LeBleu for AFTW. Crickets. Ended up doing the trade when I saw an ISO LeBleu posted by a past trade partner, and spotted AFTW on his gots list. Other posts I thought were completely fair and would be easy also got crickets.

Others I have posted wondering if it would get any response have filled my inbox. FT 2011 BCBS was the last one of these I can remember.

Crickets only means the right person hasn't seen the post, not that it isn't fair, or can't get done.

Not long ago, I offered fresh Head Hunter, White Rajah, and Columbus IPA in any combo $4$ for PTE and didn't get a bite.

Couldn't get any bites on Zombie Dust. Had offered it up and had at least 4 deals drop through over the course of it being 1week old-now 8 weeks old. Was only asking $4$ or similar.

Now I'm stuck with roughly 1/2 a case of a beer I'm not a huge fan of (or any IPAs), instead of trading a sure bet. Being the new guy sucks. Can't get partners to trade, because you don't have a history. But can't start making a history.

Even made the statement when bought it, that I would be getting a case just so I could get my feet wet on trades.

Happens to all of us sooner or later. Two thoughts.

One is the trade itself. When "valuing" beers neither Black Tuesday nor BASC is nearly as sought after anymore as King Henry in the "open market" (which is what the trade forum is); I'd wager that if you offered both of them up for only a King Henry, you might hear the same crickets, or their close relatives. People are just not letting go of the remaining bottles easily. And no, I don't have any Henry, sadly!

Second is my belief that there are simply fewer trades getting done through the forum than there once were...pure speculation, of course. A few years ago I would regularly see posts, at least once a week, seeking out Surly Furious, or Bender...at present I can't recall the last one I saw. As many people have noted, the board has turned into a whale-hunting exercise more than a venue for regular old trades (which could be lots of things: cost of trading, critical mass of so many people having tried the 'regular' great beers like Furious, more & more people with regular trading partners doing business behind the scenes, etc.). Ergo, people are looking at the boards less often, & you're less likely to capture the right set of eyeballs at the right instant to complete a trade like this.

OK, enough idle speculation for so early in the morning. Carry on.

Lately the bottle shops near me, have been having a 1 bottle limit for PtE and have been selling out quickly. I dont know if the demand for PtE is up, or it being sent to more places, but it has been much harder to get in the InlandEmpire and Orange county

Your trade has a lot of potential problems... one part trading for both bottles at once, one part King Henry is impossible to trade reasonably for, one part Black Tuesday production increase has lowered its trade value, and one part BA Sexy Chocolate seems to have really fallen off the radar of traders.

Don't get me wrong - by every trade valuation metric out there, you would be giving more than you get... yet for some reason it doesn't shock me that it isn't getting done.

Agreed on the King Henry. Like I said in a previous post though... I have done this one before, just in 2 separate trades. But, King Henry is quickly becoming harder & harder to obtain... One of these days it'll be as hard to get as Rare I think.

Indeed. The problem with Pliny is that's its the beer that the non-geeks recognize and snatch up. Personally, I'm not willing to chase it down when it hits town once a month. Too much work for a "shelf beer".

I put up a trade of fresh Heady Topper plus Jack's Abby / locals for these three beers and I got crickets. I reported a couple,of days later and did get one response. I thought it would be an appealing trade, but I guess the right people weren't reading it.

I did this once and bought a beer I didn't like but was going to trade it only to end up being stuck with said bottle. If I'm trading something now, and it's not something I have on hand, I won't buy it until the trade is nailed down.

It has happened to me before. I think you just need the right BA's logged in and looking at it at the right time. After hearing crickets, I just waited and posted the exact trade a day or 2 later and I got multiple offers. With the amount of trades on the forums now, a post quickly falls into page 2,3,4...

Yeah, same with my trade. Right people at the right time didn't see it. And getting all 3 of those fresh, in abundance, doesn't happen very often! I just hadn't had a PTE in quite awhile so I wanted to revisit it.

I would like to add a 3rd. The vast increase in great local beer I can buy off the shelf and don't need to trade for/ try something new. The number of brewerys cranking out good stuff has increased tremendously.

I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes when I offer up fresh Heady Topper for other decent off the shelf or readily available beers that I am looking for. NEVER
