    Happy Friday, everyone!
It may be a new year, but we are still serving up dope brews!
Here are your 3 Notions for this week...

    Upcoming Drops

    Double Strawberry Banana Shake
    (9.1% abv) $22/4pack
The most a-peeling Shake yet, Double Strawberry Banana Shake is a blend of banana puree, strawberry, and vanilla. Thick and sweet with a hint of tartness, this brew brings to mind a dollop of creamy strawberry banana yogurt.

    Double Fudge Coconut Brownie
    (12% abv) $25/4pack
Double Fudge Coconut Brownie is a sinfully decadent dessert stout brewed with rich chocolate and flaky coconut. With all the flavors of gooey brownie batter, you’ll definitely want to lick the spoon!

    Juice Explorer
    (8% abv) $20/4pack
Discover the furthest reaches of flavor with Juice Explorer. Originally brewed in collaboration with our friends at Moksa Brewing, this hazy double IPA is dry hopped with Galaxy, Motueka, and Sabro for out-of-this-world hop character.

    Ripe
    (7% abv) $18/4pack
Ripe is back and ready to be plucked for your sipping pleasure. One of our favorite flagships, this hazy IPA is bursting with hoppy Citra goodness.

    JB DIPA
    (8% abv) $20/4pack
Juice Jr’s big brother JB is a Mosaic-only double IPA brimming with aromas of peach, mango, and passion fruit. You won’t need a straw to suck down this dangerously drinkable juice.

    Survey Results

A huge thank you to those folks who took our survey last week! We are still combing through all the answers, but y'all are full of fantastic feedback and ideas. Here are some of our favorite tidbits so far:

-Our classic hazy IPAs like Ripe and Juice Jr. are the clear favorites, but our Shake series got the most love among the new beers of 2020.

-To our surprise, lots of people are hoping for lower abv (or even non-alcoholic) beers in the future. And while you dig our experimental flair, many of you are itching for a return to more classic styles as well.

-NW is the most popular taproom, but most folks prefer the locations nearest to them.

-There are a lot of awesome cities suggested for future GN locations, but the most popular spots are still in the Portland or Seattle area. Oh, and California of course!

-While we are all looking forward to in-person events (and look back fondly on old ones!), most of you are more interested in virtual events for the coming year. We are really happy to hear this, as we will definitely not be planning any in-person meet-ups for a good long time. Can't wait to see what we come up with instead!

We will take our time looking over all of your thoughtful responses, but they have already been helpful in making our 2021 plans! If you haven't taken our survey and you would like to, it will remain open for another week. Check it out here if you are interested! It should take about 15 minutes to complete.

    Plans for 2021

2020 was definitely a big year at Great Notion, and now we are hard at work planning 2021! We will be discussing the future of the company in the coming weeks, so look for a few changes coming down the pike in the next couple of months. We'll be coy for now, but here is a rough roadmap of what we are imagining in the near future.

Our next major app update is slated for release soon (hopefully in February), so you'll see more information on new features here in the newsletter shortly. Highlights include the rad games and augmented reality characters that we've been teasing for ages now, as well as one-hour beer delivery in PDX through DoorDash (we currently offer next-day local delivery). Seattle delivery will also be rolled out once we have had some time to work through any kinks in the process.

We'll also be announcing more information on upcoming Timbercrew rewards and making some possible changes to our reward structure. All very cool stuff, and we are excited to fill you a little later!

Dine-in service is still suspended at all taprooms while COVID-19 numbers continue to hit record highs. We are cooking up some plans for new menu concepts once we are able to reopen, but in the meantime, wear those masks and stay safe so that we can all have a beer together soon!

Take care of yourselves out there, and we'll see you next week.

    Shipping to NV and AK

Good news - if you live in Nevada or in Anchorage, Alaska, you can now get your favorite GN beers shipped directly to your door! Stock up on Ripe and Purple Lemonade starting TODAY, and get your hands on the hottest upcoming drops too.

Shipping is a flat rate per case (up to six 4packs) of $25 for Nevada and $100 for Anchorage. Merch ships free with beer orders over $100, so make sure to browse our merch shop before checking out!

*Just a heads up - if you enter your NV or AK address, the app will still display Oregon as the state in the checkout screen. Don’t worry though! Everything is going through correctly on our end, so your order will make it to you soon, and we’ll have this issue fixed in the app shortly.

**We use UPS Ground Shipping, so while orders placed to states outside of Oregon will not arrive next day, you can expect to have your beer in your hands before too long. You will receive detailed tracking info from UPS as soon as your order leaves our facility.

    Upcoming Drops

    Super Baked
    (8% abv) $22/4pack
We dialed up the potency of this pie-inspired tart ale. Super Baked is hot from the oven and bubbling with blueberry, lemon, vanilla, cinnamon, and milk sugar.

    Double Cherry Shake
    (9% abv) $22/4pack
Shake, rattle, and roll your way through the last week of January with the newest in our Shake series. This tart ale is a cherrific - er - terrific blend of plump cherries and sweet vanilla.

    Groundhog Day
    (8.3% abv) $21/4pack
Tomorrow is another day - or is it? Whether it’s the winter darkness or the tedium of pandemic life, our days are all running together, so let’s hope the old groundhog gives us some good news this year. Either way, our newest double dry-hopped hazy DIPA (with Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Galaxy hops) is anything but dull.

    Puppy Love
    (5.4% abv) $18/4pack
Who’s a good doggo? Puppy Love wags its way back next week. Made to be an easy drinker, this session IPA was brewed with Citra, Amarillo, and Sabro hops, and of course, love. Fetch some for yourself!

    Puffery
    (5% abv) $15/4pack
We’re all puffed up with pride over the first installment of this delicious new lager series. This version of Puffery is a Munich-style Helles done right. Hallertau Mittlefruh hops, pilsner malt, and a touch of light Munich malt - and time - are all that we needed for this perfectly crushable beer.

    New Look at Ballard

The interior over at Great Notion Ballard got a rad new look! Our mural went up this week, bringing a few of our favorite Chad Eaton creations to life in the taproom. Catch a peek next time you stop by - we’re open 12-7 pm daily for app order pickups and to-go beer!

    Happy Friday, everyone!
Dry January is over at last, and love (and Fluff) is in the air!
Here are your 3 Notions for this week...

    Upcoming Drops

    Love Notion #9
    (11.5% abv) $25/4pack
Love in the time of COVID is tricky business. Get a little help with an infusion of Love Notion #9, an imperial stout concocted with a sensual mix of silky chocolate, lush raspberry, and velvety rose. Watch out - you’ll be kissing everything in sight with this amorous elixir in your system.

    Mamut
    (11.6% abv) $22/4pack
Laissez les bons temps rouler! We’re going wild in the spirit of Mardi Gras with Mamut, an imperial stout with marshmallows, chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, and a hint of cinnamon. Toss some beads our way!

    Fruit Monster: Mango Pineapple
    (6% abv) $20/4pack
Fruit Monster is back to cause some mayhem, this time with a marvelously tart blend of mango and pineapple. It’s scary good.

    Baby Superstar
    (4.5% abv) $17/pack
Maybe you are easing your way into February, or maybe you are looking for a more sessionable hazy for upcoming sports ball viewings. Superstar’s little sister is brewed with the same fearless blend of Mosaic, Simcoe, Galaxy, and Vic Secret, just with a more mini abv.

    Overglow
    (7% abv) $20/4pack
Overglow is the result of two of our favorite IPAs joining in harmony. Over Ripe with its mangosteen fruitiness meets the West Coast hoppiness of Afterglow. It's transcendent.

    Blue Raspberry Fluff

    Blue Raspberry Fluff
    (8.5% abv) $20/4pack
We’ve spun up a fresh batch of our cotton-candy inspired tart ale series with all the melt-in-your-mouth goodness of the real thing. Blue Raspberry Fluff is a sticky sweet froth of blueberry, raspberry, vanilla, and cotton candy flavors that brings the carnival to you.

And sporting a fresh look for the occasion is another new member of our character crew, Ignatius L.L. Fluffenheim (age 37, from Molalla, OR). Ignatius is an avid attendee of the carnival circuit, and he can never quite satisfy his overdeveloped sweet tooth. Friendly, easy-going, and always down for a good cuddle, this flocculent fellow loves to change up his ‘do to suit his shifting moods. He may be a nice guy, but his manners are a little lacking at times - he has a tendency to slobber as he gobbles his sweet treats, and you might notice that his stare lingers just a little too long.

Psst! If you live in WA, we are looking good to go live with shipping in your state on Monday! We just about have all the details squared away, so keep an eye on your inbox and our social media channels early next week!

    Dine-In Update

Service restrictions have loosened up a bit in Seattle, and we've received lots of questions about the status of dine-in service at our Georgetown and Ballard locations. Good news - we hope to open for limited indoor seating at our Ballard location by the end of the month! We are hiring and training up an excellent staff to get ready for service, so it won't be long now. The jury is still out on whether or not we will have our kitchen up and running by that time, but more updates on offerings and reservations will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

We will not be opening Georgetown for seating for the foreseeable future due to less-than-stellar interior air flow. We will still be open for to-go beer and app order pickups, however.

Our Alberta beer garden will be suspending outdoor seating and all tap pours effectively immediately, as we are moving into the coldest, wettest part of winter. Again, we will remain open for to-go beer and app order pickups!

No updates to share just yet for NW and Beaverton, but we are looking forward to gathering with you all as soon as it is safe to do so!

The groundhog may have predicted six more weeks of winter, but luckily we're here to keep you warm with tasty brews. We'll see you next week!

    Winter Weather+ Shipping Update

Whew! This past week has been a doozy. We are relieved that we made it through and are starting to thaw out, but our thoughts are with those who are still dealing with damage, power outages, and injuries, both in in Oregon and in the rest of the country.

Our taprooms are back to regular business hours (12-7pm) - thank you for remaining flexible as we have had to move around drops and extend pickup times!

Shipping orders were also delayed by a few days as UPS worked to catch up on their backlog of packages, but luckily all orders should be scanned and updated by now, and your beer is on its way! If you still don't see any movement on your tracking information, drop us a line with your order number at shipping@greatnotion.com and we'll see what we can find out.

*Please note when placing orders that UPS makes pickups once per day in the afternoon, and they do not deliver on the weekends. If you place your order after 4pm (or 2pm for Washington shipping), it will be picked up the following day. Next-day delivery is NOT guaranteed.

    Oregon Shipping Update

Sad news this week - after some confusion with the existing statute, it turns out we can only ship out two cases of beer per month, per household to those in the state of Oregon.

New legislation is in the works to increase this limit to five cases per month, so keep your fingers crossed that SB406 gets beer added & passed soon!

If you do order more than two cases per month until the new law is passed, we unfortunately have to start cancelling & refunding orders.

    Ballard Opening

As restrictions are starting to ease in Portland and Seattle, we are finally beginning to think about re-opening our taprooms for service!

First up is Great Notion Ballard - starting on 2/24 (next week!), we will start offering limited indoor seating. Reservations can be made here starting on Monday, 2/22, and you must have a reservation to be seated. Our kitchen will remain closed for now, but we will be offering draft beer pours along with cider, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Until we fire up food service, you may bring your own food provided you pack it in and pack it out.

Parties are limited to six people from two separate households. While we will eventually be able to welcome guests of all ages, until our kitchen is open, seating is restricted to those 21 and up.

We will be keeping our garage doors open to maximize air flow, so make sure to dress for the weather! It will likely be chilly while we wait for Spring to arrive.

Georgetown will not reopen until the weather warms up for beer garden seating. No news on our Portland taprooms for the moment, but we are keep an eye on the situation and hope to share more in the near future!

    DIY Jammy Pants Truffles

We have long admired the stunning confectionary creations of our friend @ladylivvvy, who crafts gorgeous truffles using Great Notion beer (seriously, check out her amazing work!). She was kind enough to share a simple recipe with us so that we can all take a crack at some beer truffles of our own:

    Jammy Pants Truffles
    Ingredients:
    -8oz/1 cup dark chocolate
    -1/4 cup heavy cream
    -1/2 cup jammy pants

    1. Reduce beer by 50% on stove (about 10 mins on medium heat)

    2. Boil cream

    3. Pour cream and beer reduction over chocolate and let sit for 5 minutes

    4. Stir or whisk until smooth. If chocolate doesn't melt all the way, microwave for 5 second increments until you can stir them away

    5. Pour onto baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm enough to roll into balls (about 1-2 hours)

    6. Remove from fridge. Use a spoon or melon baller to scoop roughly equal portions. Use palms to roll into balls

    7. Roll in cocoa powder. Freeze dried strawberry powder is used here for extra pizzazz, and you can also roll them in a variety of things like coconut, chopped nuts, sprinkles, etc.

    8. Pair with a fresh can of Jammy Pants, and eat within 3 days for optimal enjoyment!

Make sure to stock up on the latest batch of Jammy Pants while it lasts, on the app or in-person, and whip up some truffles for yourself this weekend!

    Thank You!

Our Ruth Bader Ginsburg tribute beer, RBG, received a huge outpouring of support from all of you, and we are incredible grateful. RBG is of course delicious, but more importantly, the proceeds from this beer enabled us to pass along a donation of $10,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union in memory of the late Supreme Court Justice who worked tirelessly to advance the cause of gender equality. A huge thank you to everyone who purchased this beer!

I don't have any involvement with GN so I can't speak for them. However, based on the info I keep seeing in their emails, it appears they're gradually expanding distribution and increasing the areas where they'll ship. So my guess is that it's probably only going to be a matter of time before GN becomes available in Idaho.

I wasn't able to find any info on GN website so hoping to get some answers/help here.

Is the Ballard location tap only or are there cans available to-go as well?
If no to-go cans available at Ballard, is GN readily available in the Seattle area at craft beer stores? Any store that sells singles? Thanks in advance.

GN is not available in any beer stores in Washington. You must order by the 4 pack through their app, then pick up within 2 days at Ballard or Georgetown locations. It is not sold to-go as a walk-up option, but it is effectively the same by just ordering in their app before you walk up to pick it up. Both Ballard and Georgetown are pick-up locations, Ballard either has already or is opening soon for limited in-house drinking, but I think a reservation is required.

Let me know what other questions you have. Like John_M I am not affiliated with GN, I just participate in drops here and there and read every weekly email they send.

I will make a small amendment to this comment ^ Occasionally, Chucks Hop Shop will get great notion cans, but it's pretty rare and now-days there's really no point since you can buy the same thing directly from GN.

    Back in BVT

Our gradual taproom reopening continues, and Great Notion Beaverton is all set to welcome dine-in guests once more! Starting on March 8, GN Beaverton will be offering draft pours and sandwiches, and seating will be first-come, first-served - we will not be taking reservations at this time. Our dining room will operate at 50% capacity, with outdoor seating also available as weather permits. Parties are limited to groups of six or fewer, but kids are welcome! Dogs can also join in the fun outside on the patio, as long as they are well-behaved and friendly. Remember that we will continue to require mask-wearing when moving around the taproom or interacting with staff, and we will still be cards-only.

We will start by offering a trio of mouthwatering sandwiches, including:

-House-smoked pulled pork shoulder and shaved pork loin, piled high with Harvarti cheese and Carolina Gold BBQ sauce (also made in-house)

-Thinly sliced top sirloin, white cheddar, grilled rapini, and Mama Lil peppers with house Maple Ancho hot sauce

-Grilled zucchini, eggplant, and red peppers with olive spread, arugula, and Ledge Bier tomato jam

All sandwiches are served on a Dos Hermanos Dutch Crunch roll and are accompanied by a house pickle and a side of chips.

We'll be back with more notions this time next week, and we hope to see you in Beaverton soon!

    One Year Later

When we took a look at the schedule a couple of weeks ago, we realized that the newest batch of Berry Pusher was brewed almost exactly one year from the day it first debuted on draft at the Alberta pub. Of course, this past week also marked the anniversary of the closure of bars and restaurants in Oregon and the beginning of COVID lockdown. Like all of you, we are feeling reflective about the past year and the incredible hardships faced by so many. For the first time in a long time, though, we are also feeling hopeful - things are starting to bloom and the sun is peeking out, which means winter is almost behind us! COVID numbers continue to decline, and everyday we hear news from friends and loved ones that they have received their long-awaited COVID vaccines. We will continue to play it safe to keep everyone healthy, but it’s definitely starting to feel like it won’t be long before we can all gather again in this brave new world.

The anniversary batch of Berry Pusher arrives next week with buckets of strawberries and blueberries, accented with fluffy flaked oats and gobs of honey. For maximum enjoyment, we recommend finding a patch of sunshine and quaffing this nectar among the hyacinths and daffodils. (5.5% abv) $20/4pack

And in the spirit of brighter days ahead, we hope you will raise a glass (of Berry Pusher, perhaps?) with us and toast the possibilities that the future holds.
