Amazing. This is not going to be easy. Since Joe was your grandfather, I'm going to assume any choices likely were around a long time ago. That assumption may be wrong (maybe he discovered his favorite beer late in life, and it was Heady :grinning: ).

    1. Milwaukee's Best

One of these answers is correct, another of these answers needs a more specific brand name.

Also, re: the Joe 6-pack LIF, I encourage everyone to consider the difference between liquor and liqueur.

I really should have read through the thread before I guessed. I have 2 of them correct, and understand the bonus question better, but I jumped the gun and threw out a guess that didn't help me at all. :grinning:

Edit: yes, I made this into a spreadsheet. It's similar to a logic game we used to play to kill time on watch.

There's a really good hint re: the bonus question embedded in one of my responses.

You shouldn't take it personally Larry; I never got the impression you were upset, and you weren't the only one talking about it by the time I chimed in.

I think it's a valid observation that the participation has dipped post-holidays, and while vibe is more subjective, it's an equally valid observation.

I think I showed fairly conclusively that the participation in NBW overall is, on average, better than what we were seeing in NBS, even after the holidays (but not as good as before). The quality or feel (vibe) of that participation? Well, that's something Terry hit at. It certainly felt more special with a dedicated day (vice two), and with familiar hosts and themes (I think Mike mentioned the loss of themes). I liked dedicated hosts, personally, but while I'm entitled to that opinion, I'm not entitled to the presumption that it is right, or that it works for everyone. I also liked the themes, but like the frequent alliteration in the opener, there's nothing that really drives that, and I think that with the transition away from dedicated hosts, losing the themes and alliteration kind of just went hand-in-hand with that (after all, nothing is stopping whoever opens the thread from sticking to those ideas, or from anyone later chiming in with something similar; it just hasn't happened, at least not regularly).

At the same time, being special also meant it felt more exclusive. Some BA members were kind of afraid to jump in, and the change to NBW has definitely made it more inclusive - not that we weren't welcoming before!

Like you said, people change and so do participants. Nothing stays the same, and while I'm not sure that change is always good, I am sure that everything eventually changes. And I'm a much bigger fan of something changing than dying, given the choice.

Iced tea is one of the correct answers in the magnificent LIF courtesy of our friend @JayORear, and I believe Hamms is also correct.

We must pool our collective mental resources to solve this diabolical puzzle.

Anyone that doesn't see the greatness of these BIF's hasn't tried to solve one of these multi-dimensional 4D chess puzzles. This is SOOOOOOO awesome.

Cheers to a fantastic idea for an LIF. My grandfather, Vic, drank a Coors Banquet Beer with lunch every day and a Beefeater gin martini for happy hour every day. Many fond memories of happy hour with him.

ARGH. I know what 3 of the answers are now. When does second guess time start? Midnight?

Sure, we can make it calendar days.

Here's a refinement to the rules . . . if someone gets all three "base" questions right, but not the bonus question, they will get one more chance to guess the bonus question. If they guess incorrectly, they will still win the six-pack, but the liqueur will end up in one of the boxes I send out in NBS BIF #13, either to my target or possibly a ninja box.
