Other Half (2021)

Every time I’ve gotten Roc Showers, I’ve been happy. That’s an underrated one for sure.

 

I ordered both stouts. They are lightly waxed but I haven't bought a stout in ages from OH so I cannot speak to "first time". I actually sent my dad to pick them up as I had my second shot on Friday and felt terrible yesterday morning. While there he grabbed a 4-pack of the ESB. Best part is he doesn't know what an ESB is but they recommended it to him based on his wanting a lager. He loved it and I tasted it out of curiosity. What I will say is if you want to taste that british pub flavor this is it. Super malty, right amount of bitter, harkens to a day before the IPA was king. Not sure I could drink two consecutive, even 16oz of it may be too much but it was a solid effort on an unusual style.

 

Nelson+Simcoe is good, but it’s got the melon note for those who are melon averse. It’s slight but it’s there.

 

I got the HDHC Citra Daydream w/ Phantasm when I stopped yesterday because I enjoyed the other beers I have gotten to try with Phantasm, cracked one last night and felt it was just ehh. Not terrible but for the additional cost not worth it to me and wouldn't get it again. Seems to fall in line with some of the HDHC stuff from last year where the extra hopping was too much.

 

Had my first HDHC Citra w/ Phantasm just now. I found it to be better than ehh but agree its not worth the upcharge. It wasn't quite as aromatic as I was anticipating at first, as it warmed it opened a little but still slightly underwhelming. What I did like was that the lactose was modest. Added a nice bit to the body and finish but it was far from a sweet beer. Will happily drink the remaining three cans of this. All Galaxy Everything though...yeesh....hoping the next can of that is more melon-mellow.

Did Space Diamonds really sell out already on their website? they said it would be online at noon, i think i checked at 2:45 and couldn't find it.

it's confusing because sometimes stuff just disappears and then other times it is still listed with a "Out of Stock" message, then randomly reappear later on...

 

Your reaction to a pint of ESB in 2021 makes me wonder how an 1821 English barfly would respond to a modern day triple tose bomb, pastry stout, or Crunchee. If these styles didn't kill him outright upon the first few sips, I'm guessing the commentary would be less kind.

I find their site to be really wonky, in my experience.

FWIW I see it at the top of the list on the site now. It could be you went right past it potentially, with so many damn options on there and them not being in order of Old to New. Would be nice if the cans were listed in order of oldest to newest all the time so you knew where to look for something you wanted, or if they listed "canned on" date in the description or sometrhing.

 

yeah, I ctl-F'ed all the way through the page for 'diamond' and didn't see it, but it did pop up last night. and for instance, their IG post yesterday announced Mylar Daydream at the same time, and that's nowhere to be found either. It's just confusing that sometimes stuff drops off and then reappears later without knowing if its actually sold out.

now i just have to gamble whether to get a 4 pack of space diamonds and another of something else to hit the local delivery minimum, and not knowing whether something like SGE is a recent silent drop or something that was canned long ago (since as you say, they don't list canned dates), or if I should hold out for something else that might hit at noon today.

 

Mixed 4-packs would be kinda cool. It’s such a pain having to wrangle people to go in with me, negotiate what we get and drop off to them.

I know there are challenges in doing mixed packs, or single cans at the 4 pack costs and OH has never been keen on doing it, but I would even do a preset mix 4 or case/half case like some other places offer. Would get me to try something I may never buy a full pack of and also get them to push some stuff out the door that isn't selling as quickly.

 

DP did a couple of mixed 4s early on. They did it for the Dank Squares Strata and for Staring at the Sea. It's a great idea but tough to do
