A brewery would need to have a barrel program to produce enough BA stouts & barleywines for someone to have "plenty" of them

Okay. So, what’s the point of cellaring it, if you’ve never had it?

If it’s you have too much beer and you’ll get to them later that’s fine, but you stated outright you’re going to cellar them. Does that mean a couple of months or a couple or years?

Having made the mistake of cellaring beers I’d never had before in the past is where I’m coming from. A lot of people who get into this fall into that trap, cellaring “is cool.” It’s not if you don’t have a point of reference for what you are drinking. A brewery is releasing a beer when they are because it’s ready even if it has cellaring potential, flavors could develop.

That said, if you don’t have more than one, open one now and the other later, you’ll never know. You’re doing the beer and yourself a disservice.

I’m only talking in respect to TH. Plenty of course would be relative.

I’m not tossing them in the back of the fridge because I think aging will bring about a more complex drink. I simply prefer other beers and have no desire to drink them immediately.

As I originally said, hate away, but they’re going to sit there for at least a few months.

I’ll be sure to pm you the next time I buy a ba stout and don’t drink immediately. I know how much it effects you!

The only thing more annoying than the aging police are the grammar police. You’re both the worst.

Man, you get really defensive about voluntarily doing stupid stuff that you knew full well would get flamed from the start.

If you prefer other beers enough to just sit on first run limited BA beers indefinitely, why did you even buy these in the first place?

these beers have been in a barrel two years...unless we're talking heavy heavy post barrel coffeeing I don't think I've ever had a BA beer that was significantly less good a year later. the initial post was dumb but like both of those beers are going to be fine any time in 2021 and probably 2022, too.

Then you must have a very small sample size, because that's a very unusual amount of luck.

The adjuncts are added post barrel.. They might be “fine” in 2022 however the adjuncts will have faded significantly.

Post barrel adjuncting definitely changes the stakes a bit, I won't disagree there. But I really haven't had anything oxidize under a year and a half. I think about all the places that roll out cellar bottles for double the price on site and people go bananas for them...a properly stored bottle at home really shouldn't be worse than that.

We can definitely knock the 'gotta catch 'em all' nature of the beer world in 2021, but I don't think it's crazy that going to TH regularly is going to lead to getting a few bottles you know you won't get to for a bit. To each their own, I suppose!

If these beers hadn’t gone into barrels and were adjuncted and then packaged the adjunct flavors would last longer. However since they’ve essentially been oxidizing for 1-2 years already (which is what’s happening in the barrel) there are tons of oxidative compounds in that beer that will speed up the degradation of the adjunct flavor, certain adjuncts fade faster than others.

Has anyone had the current Very Green or GGG on offer? Thoughts? I am probably going to make a trip tomorrow and am curious what you fine people think about this batch. Also, curious on Steadfast.
