Perhaps Hard Root Beer will scratch your itch here?

Not Your Father’s Root Beer was a BIG thing a few years ago. I can’t remember the last time I saw this beverage.

    Cheers!

I would say the entire IPA landscape hit a level of ridiculousness once this was considered a desirable appearance of a beer...

That would be called Dads Rootbeer. Do they still make this?

    Enjoy

Oh yeah I didnt even really pay attention to the label. I just googled “hazy ipa” and picked the most disgusting looking one (that I also thought those on the haze train may actually find appealing).

    But I agree with you.

Speaking of, does anyone remember when Not Your Fathers Root Beers first hit, and the 10% variant was for a brief period of time incredibly desirable on BA? I remember people throwing crazy proposals out on the trade forums for it.

As I mentioned in post #161:Not Your Father’s Root Beer.

Yeah, this beverage is still being produced but as I stated above it has been a while since I have seen it. There used to be HUGE stacks of this at my local Wegman's supermarket years ago.

    Cheers!

Yup, that’s the name. I remember seeing stacks all over as well. I did try one at a party in 2015. It was pretty flat and had a fake chemical after taste. Smelled just like root beer though.

    Enjoy

I thought sour beers sounded terrible, but I love them now. I will give the Kool aid beers a chance.

Call it something else, just not beer.

Saw one in the WBAYDN thread a couple of weeks back that was some kind of Mai Tai inspired beer. It looked like mashed grape jello.

I'm no fan of these beers, but if they're brewed like beers, they're beers.

I might try a 4 oz. snifter...just to try it...but no way would I plunk down $12 for a 4 or 6 pack of kool-aid inspired beer without trying it and loving it.

Fair enough. But we at least shouldn't call them craft beers.

Woo, you are very clearly unacquainted with these beers! $12 would be hailed as a bargain, the fruited sour cans I see are typically in the $4-5 range per can, so $16-20/4 pack. And they wouldn't be caught dead in a 6 pack (especially not in 12 oz containers or, god forbid, bottles:grimacing:)

And those are shelf beers at the grocery. I'm sure the brewery only, super fruit, IP theft variety come with a heftier price tag

IMO, this is a dumbass kind of "beer" that is the adult beverage version of candy-flavored vaping consumables...something to get youngsters hooked so they can transition eventually to the stronger stuff. Just say "no"

Well, 30-40 years ago they were typically referred to as FMB's (flavored malt beverages*), sometimes called malternatives or alcopops (the latter from the UK, maybe?). But that was before they were made by "craft" brewers , but by failing breweries which brewed them out of desperation rather than today's excuse of creativity and inspiration.

    * Even today, most of them are registered with the TTB as Type/Class "906 - MALT BEVERAGES SPECIALITIES - FLAVORED".

As for this concept of "Well, as long as it keeps craft breweries in business" (used frequently to also justify "hard seltzer" production these days) is kinda reminiscent of the same excuse given decades ago as the surviving local and regional breweries cheapened their beers, increased their adjunct percentage while lowering IBUs, dropped their non-AAL products (all-malt lagers, dark beers, bocks, ales, porters) from their portfolios and came out with "light" versions of their flagships.
