I get Co2 from Praxair the data sheet has purity difference of 0.1% between the two. That is so close it doesn't matter. I will say get a 20lb bottle the price is almost the same for between the 10 and 20# sizes. Good info...Thanks

    Did you see the above?

    .1 equates to 1000 PPM

That's literally what this whole discussion has been about.

    So anyway.

What grade gas should we be buying, to fix the problem of CO2 gas? We all want the best. I need 20# cylinders. What gas am I supposed to be buying? Where do I get said gas? If food grade is not suitable then please answer the question.

That is literally what this whole discussion is about.

    Thanks.

I get my CO2 from the party source and Listermann Brewing company, which has a homebrew store inside. Both seem to be very reliable sources, but I also don't really question the purity of it. It carbs my beer, and have never been concerned about it affecting the overall quality of my beer. Since we moved, they are both a pretty long drive from where we live though, so I purchased a few tanks and don't have to make the trip as often.

I'm, sorry of your frustrated but I'll remind you that you are the one that has brought up the apparent problem with commercial CO2, not me. It's your debate, not mine. This is a very simple question for you.

You agree that food grade CO2 is exactly what is recommended?
What is the best? Again, your debate. So what is the best? I've stated my preference as have others. It's your turn. May as well tell us all so all of us will know.

    Cheers

Far from frustrated, it's you who looks dense. Math and comprehension aren't your strong suit?

I didn't bring it up (comprehension?) as I am not the OP, I only confirmed it.

    Simple question.

It is you who has disagreed that food grade CO2 is not the best for brewing.
This is the third time asking. What is in your opinion the best supply of CO2 gas for brewing? Again, it is you that disagrees that food grade CO2 is not the best. So you must have a preferred gas supply. That is what we do here. Debate and discuss. You were quick to point out your beliefs about commercial CO2 impurity. So please extend us the logical conclusion. What is your recommended supply of CO2 gas for brewing.

    Simple question.

Thrice now I have answered this question. It's like an inception of answers.[IMG]

    But for elaboration.

Food grade co2 is not the best, if it was there wouldn't be other gas purities. It's the easiest and cheapest. Best, easiest, cheapest. Pick 2.

    What do I use?

Short answer I don't. I use spunding for natural carbonation, and these kegs https://www.gprokeg.eu/reusable-and-one-way-kegs-accessories-products/reusable-kegs which I dispense with n2.
Alternatively one could spund a bit higher (say like 2.7 vols for a 2.4vol beer) and just dispense off the excess pressure and when the keg is done it would be down to about 2.1.

I use Airgas's food grade CO2 because I'm not rich and don't feel like reinventing the wheel to reduce O2 I won't even taste. Airgas is around the corner from my LHBS. So that's what's best and easiest for me.

You dispense re-usable kegs with nitrogen.

You don't use commercial CO2 gas, of any grade, but have opinions and make recommendations about commercial CO2 gas.
You can have the last word if you like.

    Ok. We're done.
    Thanks.

I (the royal I) do not use commercial gas because of issues outlined above, it doesn't mean I never have used co2 or the breweries I consult for don't, I just have the meters and test equipment, uhh, because :grimacing:.. But, I get where you are going here.

Oh and most certainly, You're welcome!

Who knew the gas 99% of homebrewers, and likely commercial brewers, use is bad? Learn something new every day. Sorry to wade into this mess, lol.
