There is no Dark Lord 2021 thread and St Patrick’s Day is just a few days away. On the chance that it is once again a fall event, I’m not even sure a new thread should be started.

 

1- I think they could safely open this fest in the fall, the question is, do they want to do this or continue to focus on expanding the brand to other states?
2- Does FFF still have a bomber/750ml bottling line or with their barrel aged and sour mass production going into 12oz 4 packs can we reasonably expect this year’s DL to follow into that format?

 

2B) Most people don’t want four bottles of regular anymore. Is it time for non-barrel aged regulars? I would love to try a non- barrel aged vanilla.

 

I'd actually drink a non-ba Dark Lord if they did a coffee version.

Also I hope to God they do smaller format BA dark lord. Do two 12 oz bottles so it's roughly the same volume, anything please.

The trick is convincing them it's not enough.

Personally, I'd rather they make LESS non-BA DL.

At this point in the life cycles of both FFF and craft beer there's plenty of justification and demand for them to make LESS DL, and to try to aim for ALL, or almost all of the packaged product to be BA variants.

15k people walking away with 5 bombers of 15% stout every year, only one of which being a BA variant, is just totally absurd in this modern climate.

Pastry stouts have blown tf up over the years--with the added irony of few neckbeards even admitting or even realizing that it all started here, not to mention that most pastry stouts are even sweeter than DL--but they aren't easy to get ahold of, and most releases and festivals have people walking away with 1 or 2pp.

I think people would go absolutely bonkers for something like 2 reg and 2 BA variants, but even dropping it down to 1 reg would probably make the brewers more than anyone else the happiest.

I just can't imagine how much gd time they spend brewing DL in order to meet the production volume they have the past 5 or so fests. Does anyone have any links to videos or articles on DL production? I'm particularly interested in brewer commentary. I know brewers who produce big stouts year round and it's a laboriously draining task that takes up tons of space and time compared to most other beers.

 

I think they should just move DL to the 12oz 4 pack and distro them. DLD should be BA variants only.

 

They absolutely need to age more dark lord. I think if they did 1 regular BA DL and 1 BA variant per person then everyone would be happy each year, even if they get a shit variant.

 

Does anyone thing there will ever be another Dark Lord Day? As in a real festival, not just a drive-through pick up process.

 

Maybe I'm greedy, but I would like to see a 4-pack with 2 regular, one Bourbon BA (I have no idea why the counts are so low on this most years. Seems like less work/cost than adjuncts?) and one BA adjunct.
