I envision a 1990s Jaromir Jagr shag while you sip on the finest of lager.

Ha, nah. My post was a little deceiving. My roommate cuts the sides and back, but the top hasn't been trimmed in over a year.

I've had to embrace the "soccer head band" when working out so my hair doesn't flop in my eyes.

When you say roommate, should we assume that you mean butler?

Of course. And Ležák (that's my butler's name) will be vaccinated soon as an essential employee.

It's essential that he cuts my hair.

I'm hoping Phase 4 will get rid of the just as pointless 90 minute rule as well? Tried searching the MA.Gov website and didn't see any details aside from stadiums and function hall changes. Perhaps the Gov's favorite northern Italian steakhouse owner is chirping in his ear to get rid of the COVID theater restrictions for restaurants and bars.

I mean the way you worded this sounds like you ordered food and beer, and the beer takes no time to prepare so you naturally got it first. Mx. COVID Theater over here seemed to want to just order beer and say that they'll order food later.

True I did word it that way.

But there’s been plenty of places I’ve ordered my drink first without a food order.

Then I would order food when they came back with my drink. I haven’t been to a place yet that has been strict about it, but I also always ordered food. More often than not I’ve ordered my drink first.

I imagine they’ll say something if you’re being a dick and have been sitting there for a half hour enjoying your drink with no intention of getting food.

Nope they said they would only serve a beer with the food & it’s what happened. No inquiries about the beers either, god forbid you have any questions. Just a miserable experience compared with any other bar/restaurant/taproom in the state. But yah, they complied with all the regulations, congrats.

Yeah that does seem a bit over the top and unnecessary. I've been to more places since the pandemic began (almost all of them outside, so as safe as possible) then I can count on two hands and I don't recall any establishment ever doing this.

Maybe they got dinged in the past, so they were tighter with the rules?

Should get back to normal soon enough. My experience with Mighty Squirrel was similarly disappointing. Had to get the food truck fare first, then had some phone ordering issues, it was a half hour into our hour and a half before we got beers. And very rigid about booting us out. Had to gulp down my 2nd. There shoulda been some NFL 'reset the clock' ruling here... I'm giving most everyone a pass on the last year. It was a learning experience, some learned quicker than others.

One GREAT find for me was Rapscallion Brewpub in Acton. Only place I hung out at all winter. Outside around their firepit. Good beer and food. Smoked wings. The barrel-aged imperial stout was a favorite.

A "police state" except within your own state. Probably the same feeling as when I had the gall to go to a beer store in PA and try to buy a 6 pack of beer rather than a whole case of anything. Wait, wha?

To follow up on my miserable experience @ Mighty Squirrel, which many seemed to think was just fine & should be the standard.

I went to a popular place in Somerville over the weekend and stayed for nearly 3 hours. The windows were open & tables were appropriately spaced. Was able to order a beer while I perused the food menu. Enjoyed a nice meal with my friend watching March Madness & were never told at any point that we’d need to leave. Chatted with the friendly server about the beer & food menu. In fact declined an additional offer of another drink. But yeah, please tell me how this place is a COVID hotspot & evil.

*Footnote: we left a great tip too (30%)

Why not name the place since Op is looking for ideas (vs just whining/bickering)?

Ha, I think I know the place. I was at a similar type place in Somerville with a similar vibe (assuming I do know the place you were at). I also seem to recall them asking if we even wanted food, haha.

I'd personally rather not name a place that let me stay 3 hours on the off chance (albeit a remote chance) that caused the establishment any trouble.

Honestly, you can just go anywhere in Somerville and find a similar experience. Despite its reputation for being more liberal than most cities, the restaurants have been fairly relaxed in this regard.

Fair enough - just seems to me (and this is BA so I guess it’s important to keep expectations rock bottom) that OP had a straightforward question, and has gotten very little in terms of helpful responses. Just a combo of judgement, bitching or the usual BA rabbit hole tangents.

Exactly. Let's slam the place publicly following the mandate because someone didn't like their experience, but laud and not name the one who isn't following because that experience suited them better.

Let’s come back to reality here. I was a strict adherent to COVID protocols for most of the pandemic & still caught it pre-Thanksgiving. It sucked for full disclosure. But with the rising vaccinations & lowering hospitalizations these rules are just plain dumb . Btw the place I visited has had zero closures & upgraded where it counts in their fresh air ventilation system, which is why I was confident in visiting there. The end of COVID is close.

Heres the point. The state mandates exist. Some places will choose to adhere to them more strictly than others and giving the ones that do a hard time is BS. Ive been to both kinds of places and was able to enjoy myself at both.

You should be taking issue with the rules, not the establishment attempting to follow them.
