Looks like Brewers Fork just tapped Layers. Should be a nice treat sitting on their patio the next two days.

Does anyone know if double burst will be coming soon? It looks like they release it 2x a year, and I remember missing it in late November.

On an unrelated note, this beer is superb. It has a nice amount of funkiness. It tastes clean and bright with an almost lemony tartness. And the mellow earthiness from the barrel as it goes down.

Best Avalonia I've had by them. Beats the original and all the fruited versions IMO. It's on level with Hill.

    Well done:

“It was with heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of Dave Witham, founder of Proclamation Ale Company, late last year. With his vibrant personality and infectious energy he has left an indeliable mark on the beer scene here in New England and beyond.

Our friends Craft Collective, together with Dave’s wife Lori and the crew at Proc, organized a collaborative brewing initiative which they have graciously allowed us to take part in. All of the proceeds from these beers will be going towards a 529 plan for Dave and Lori’s daughter Harper. This week we're proud to share our interpretation of Second Derivative.

Based on the original Derivative recipe we were asked to devise our own hopping regiment for Second Derivative. With his "all-out, no Plan-B, go-for-it approach” in mind we brought in two hop varieties we have yet to share in a beer - El Dorado and Zappa (a little nod to Dave’s love of music). To round it out and pull things together we also added a bit of Strata.

An added thanks to Iron Heart Canning and InTouch Labels for generously donating their services in the packaging of this beer.

    canning 3/17 | 6% ABV”

Tiddly Nitro and Varonna as well.

Making my second visit every on Sunday. Anything else around that I could check out ? looking for food, outdoor stuff, Good beer shops, and other breweries recommendations. I am coming from MA and not looking to travel much further south than Fox Farm. Thanks in advance

It's not sexy, but we like to grab subs at Salem Prime Cuts (2 minutes away from FF and we really like their subs & sandwiches) and drive to Gardner Lake State Park (~5 minutes away) to eat them. It's not fancy, but eating a good sub while looking out at a lake isn't the worst thing in the world. We have friends that really like the sandwiches from The Plum Tomato (also a couple minutes from FF and right across the street from Salem Prime Cuts).

Last time I went I went to Beer’d in stonington (the mill) after, I think it was only an extra 15-20 drive farther than fox farm, they had a really cool beer garden that was actually indoors, it was in a huge open space in the middle of a huge converted old mill. I only grabbed a to go order because I wasn’t aware of their set up prior to my visit so I can’t speak to the food but it seemed like a pretty awesome setup when it comes to dealing with the winter temps and covid.

Harry's Place in Colchester is a dope seasonal seafood/burger shack. IDK if they're open yet but if so I highly recommend it.

There's also Stranger Tides Brewing in Colchester, but I haven't been and can't speak on it. Just from a quick glance at their Google Maps listing, the overall rating is low and they had some bad reviews a year+ ago but every review since is very positive so maybe they turned things around.

Unfortunately 2 Bros is closed on Sundays, they are a minute away from Fox Farm and have great food and beer. Colchester Wine and Spirits has a really good selection of beers. Hop Culture Farms is another brewery that isn’t too far from Fox Farm and they have indoor and outdoor seating. They are also located next to Cato Corner Farms which has great cheese.

Stranger Tides is...fine, but not worth the trip. But Hop Culture, also in Colchester, is pretty great, and is right next to Cato Corner farm where you can get some of the best cheese around.

Does Fox Farm allow for proxy pick ups? I would like to pick up an order for a friend, but am curious if I can.

Yes. They typically like the proxy name listed at time of order but they are super easy to deal with. You can email them to be safe.

Dang- it would seem that NEIPAs is Fox Farm's weakest area; still, the Burst and Wile I had were decent. I went to Fox Farm for the wild ales, but bought everything, and the lagers are delicious. I hope they open up for onsite soon! I would love to drink a gather on their patio.

I felt the same way, but it also could be because I think hop-forward stuff is far superior on draft. I think a ton is lost in that transfer to cans (or bottles)

There’s definitely batch variation and personal variables (I think Dec Burst was really vibrant) but I’m still partial to their hoppy beers compared to others that are either juice boxes masquerading as beer or so chalky and thick they require a knife and fork to drink.

I also believe their Pales outshine the IPAs and DIPAs. Wish they would brew the Roam series more often, especially the Nelson iteration.
