As of this post, over 130,000 trades have been logged into our trading feedback system alone since it launched on November 3, 2013. There's no doubt been hundreds of thousands more over the years, with millions of beers exchanged around the globe, all coordinated via BeerAdvocate.

Based on the feedback, it's clear that most trades are good (if not great), but there are some mediocre and bad experiences too.

But what's your most bizarre beer trading experience? (Good or bad.)

    None yet. Knock on woods.

I only dealt with two loyal, trustworthy traders.

Only criticism I can make is USPS and their rough handling of packages.

Only had one bad trade. We agreed on what to send, but when my box arrived, I only got half of what I asked for along with a bunch of random stuff to cover $4$. When I told homie what he would think if I sent him stuff we didn’t agree on he replied, “Yeah, I guess that would be weird.” Cool shit.

Not a bad trade (all the beer was there, and extras) but just a little weird. I’ve seen people include stuff to make noise in the box (rice in a water bottle, pennies, stuff like that). This box legit was filled with loose elbow macaroni. Never seen that before and probably won’t ever again

Nothing "bizarre" since my entire life is bizarre.

I have a generous, in-person trader to whom I still owe a pick-up. I loved trading with a fellow from Indiana, who I tracked down & hit up while doing a CANverse trade with a fellow from Maine who reached out to me. I am swimming in beer, which is bizarre, and as such, not really trading currently. I enjoy it when I CAN do it & when it makes sense, but right now, I am satiated for the foreseeable future.

Now, from others' perspective, my "Woody Him Forward (WHF) Tour" from June 2006 to August 2008 had MANY bizarre exbeeriences with me showing up at people's doorstep, muling beers around from hither & yon for a place to crash for a day or two.

It was like a precursor to CouchSurfing & people were initially suspicious until word-of-mouth got around. Before long, people were CANmoring for me to stop by their town/area/region to display their local wares. I was like Johnny CANBeerSeed, bringing CANs to places that were CANpletely foreign for an impromptu share. Less trade as swap as my hard-shell suitcase would be emptied of beers from three or four days ago & refilled with locals to be hauled off to the next stop or two. The elation as I rolled in was amazing, but to me, it was all a part of a larger plan, acCANplished in early-August 2008 as I made ALL fifty (50) states + DC & most of the CANadian provinces. Phew.

I'm done now, for the foreseeable future, in the face of COVID-19. I have plenty to drink, both at home & locally, but the northern midwest CANtinues to beckon ...

To be honest almost every trade has worked out ok in the end. I always send usps too!
Recently had a box sent by mail to a proxy, then sent a thank you box. I verified they all got there then got no response for several weeks. I was getting nervous, then he replied and it turned out he had covid19 and had been super sick. He then sent my box promptly.

    A bit long, so...

I had a crazy experience with a Fantasy Football BIF. To make a long story short(er) I will say it was my first FF of any kind, and it happened during a hotly contested divorce proceeding, and before I was smart(er) about using on-line. This was a FF league admin. in Yahoo, but adv. here on BA. Shotgun round coincided with me making a Vt. trip, so my lucky target in the shotgun round got a big box of Vt. beers. I, however, did not get anything in that round, I was a victim of a bad trader. This coinicided with my soon-to-be-ex changing the password on our shared Yahoo account, so I couldn't get in. The admin. was on BA, so I tried contacting him through BA a few times for help. No response. So, I didn't get my shotgun beers, I couldn't get in to Yahoo to make my picks (or anything else) and I couldn't contact admin. I said fuck it, and I just dropped out. Big mistake. At the end of the season I got labeled a bad trader, due to I didn't send beer to the winner. Okay,, I got roasted publicly, said my piece on the BT thread, then ended up going to Tree House to get a growler of Good Morning and a box of other TH beers for the winner to make it up to him for me not sending beer. End of story? No.

About 3 weeks after the end of season, during one of the coldest snaps in memory, I got a box of beer from someone I didn't know. It was six cans of beer, all of them shelfies with distro here, all of them hard frozen and expanded, and three of them burst, making it an ice sculpture in a box. Well, I set about to solve the mystery of this beer, and I posted in as many places as I could to try and find out who this person was. No luck. Didn't think about it again until I was contacted on BA by the guy who sent the box. Turns out it was the guy supposed to send me beer in the shotgun round of the FF BIF! He apologized,, but said he'd had trouble getting in touch with the admin of the BIF (who BTW is someone I now know personally, and to this day denies completely he ignored either of us) and just gave up and dropped out, as I had. He'd found out I was looking for him. I didn't get in touch with him to ask why the fuck he sent me a box of shelfies in a cold snap that was making national headline news, but it was a fitting ending to this disaster.

I told this story a bunch back in the day and always thought it was funny I was the only person ever to send a box of Vermont beers, receive nothing, and then get labeled a bad trader.

Going into the memory banks to see if anything of note comes up. I probably got fleeced pretty bad in my first trade ever but live and learn. Anyway looking forward to the stories that are sure to follow!

I knew there was a bad trader story about you, but never knew the whole story. Always found it odd because you are the last person I'd expect to have a bad trader story about. What a cluster ...

It was extremely frustrating (as were many things as my wife and I declared nuclear war on each other via our attorneys) but hardly the worst thing that happened during that epic, 24 month divorce battle. And it makes a good story now over some beers.

The other bizarre one I had was 10 years ago.
The guy gave his business address. So when usps tried to deliver some secretary refused it. It got returned to me. I don’t think there was accurate tracking back then and it was essentially lost in the wind for a couple weeks. It ended up returned to me with half the box ripped open. No communication from usps either positive or negative. Luckily nothing broken.
Meanwhile he was threatening to call me out as a bad trader.
I sent a 2nd time and repackaged. It went through and everything was all good. I wouldn’t repeat a trade with him however. Got a weird vibe from the whole situation.

My first-ever trade was made on here, and the other guy's box got destroyed and never delivered by USPS.

He was super cool about it and replaced the bottle.

Since then, we've met in person a few times and still trade regularly.

Another time I traded a whale (BBT b2) on here, and my box was interrupted by that most recent Anchorage earthquake. As in, it was out for delivery, and the earthquake hit. I was so scared I was going to lose that box, but it survived and was delivered.

No bad trade here. But one time my dad was sending me beer when I lived in Utah. With only little bubble wrap, my dad used old jeans to wrap the cans/bottles. Old jeans. Who would have thought that. Shortly after he dropped it off, he then realize how much weight the jeans added to the box. My dad felt bad and paid shipping. I ended up with beer and old jeans.

It was only a 5.3. I have zero idea on magnitudes but waking up feeling like your bed is going over waves of an amazing wave pool was kinda awesome.
