Have you made this request while visiting the tap rooms? Maybe they need customer feedback here?

    Cheers!

I’d a guessed a more neutral market than NEIPA land.

Haven't been yet. We just moved up here in the last month, but may try and get to Jamaica Plains this weekend.

Is the Faneuil Hall one open again? They have a roof deck too if you want to drink outside rather than inside.

This should be easier to get to for you from the Northshore and I really liked the tap room when I visited last winter (pre-pandemic).

I would encourage you to have a conversation then.

    Cheers!

As long as it doesn't don't do what ZZtop did when they added reverb to the remastered box set.

Altered from when it was first brewed in 1984? Probably. From last year? Doubtful -- especially since they've been focused on this new rendition.

Not probably me bucko. The original Boston Lager was hoppier than the Stock Ale, which I haven't seen in quite a while.

I was being diplomatic, I haven't had that incarnation in -- what, 20 years?

But yeah, as many have confirmed, I definitely remember a bigger Halertauer presence in those early years.

I perused the first page of reviews, 2001, and @Jason nailed how I felt aboot the original, with these words:

Taste: Sweet malt, a little caramel, with a sublime hop oil flavour which lets through a more than ample bitterness that has a spicy bite to it. A hoppy finish with some residual sweetness and drying grain are in the end.

See if you can find fresh Anchor Steam, you may be pleasantly surprised.

    You're welcome.

And right in line with that review, no?

Except the hop characters, of course -- but the mellow caramel and hop spiciness are rather familiar.

Just thinking about this, that review was still 17 years into Boston Lager's run. Have to wonder how many tweaks had been done.

Still, the description is right in line with that first BL I had in Boston at Legal Sea Food in '85.

I wonder how much is due to freshness, and also the landscape of hops in 2001.

What I mean with the latter is, I feel like what was considered "hoppy" in 2001, wouldn't be the same as what is considered "hoppy" in 2021.

Interesting point. But looking back in my town we were still mostly buying AALs, so in comparison maybe it was just so different the perceived bitterness as compared to say Bud was immense. I thought it was bitter in say in 1984-85, now I find it a bit too sweet. Formula change or me? Maybe both?

.....& they're usually not that competent, at least not as much as the conspiracy theory purports.

Occasionally. Here & there. Not consistently. & I've yet to see both in the same place, at least not of roughly the same age. I'd like to do a side-by-side , but not going to hunt for it.
