A kind BA just gifted me a can of the same bitter I drank a box of about a month ago. There’s no canning date on this, but I’m assuming it was canned around the same time I got the box. Comparing it to my memories, I liked the first day of the box best. But this is currently tasting about what Day 3 of the box tasted like: still fine, but just a little duller (more oxidized?) than what I recollect from the first tasting. Without a side-by-side, I’d take that with a grain of salt, but it’s my impression at the moment.

Track has been doing a few mini cask collabs. So an ESB with F&M is fitting

If you haven't seen yet, F&M has a new cask-at-home box this week for ordering. Final one of "March Mildness".

If you decide to buy this box please let us know what you think (e.g., how the beer as poured presented itself).

    Cheers!

Got Wooden Soles is both cans and box. Quick summary currently there is minimal difference between the two but the box has a slight edge with the low carbonation silkiness that I really enjoy from cask ales.

A- A clear reddish brown with a two finger off white head. Box has a smaller head 4.25
S- Toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts, earthy, touch of wood. Box and can smell the same. 4.25
T- Very similar, box has a touch more balance and touch of light fruits and the wood flavor is more pronounced. Roasted malts, toffee, earthy, some caramel malts, hints of wood. Both rated 4.25

M- Can: Smooth, medium body, solid amount of carbonation. 4.25
Box: Smooth, light to medium body, silky, low carbonation. 4.5

O- Both the box and can are great Milds and not very different besides the mouthfeel. 4.25

Having the week off definitely helped me find the time to make the drive. It not too far from Tired Hands and it’s a pretty nice drive between them

Hello fellow brewers. I brew 1 gallon batches, given the sad fact that I am the only one at home who drinks, but I still wanted to try and cask beer. I stumbled upon 3 litres wine bags, and started my experiment. Recipe is a Boddington Mild replica (from Ron Pattinson's books), clocking at 4,7% ABV. I just transferred the beer to a bag, primed it to 1.4 volumes of CO2. Put the think in a plastic tub with a blanket over it, in the event of bag bursting or exploding. The aim is to carbonate it for 2 weeks, but I'll see how it goes.

Cool experiment! What did you use for priming, just sugar?

Also, hopefully the beer was definitely at FG before you started the process...

Rare to see cask beer around here, NC, Fortnite Brewery occasionally does it and it's pretty damn good.
I'd definitely buy some to take home.

Indeed, FG is at 1006, I doubt it would have gone below that. It spent two weeks in primary. After two days the bag started to stiffen a bit.

5 days in, no real carbonation. I expelled a bit of the gas build-up. I just need to be patient. Taste, however, is awesome.

    Hi Ron!
    This is the 1939 version.
Day 9, no carbontation. Taste is still great, but beverage was too cold.
I also have two bottles of these, I will compare them at day 14 or so.
    Delicious science!

Alright, so first trial is semi-conclusive. The taste is there, but not the carbonation. Maybe I miscalculated something, or 1.4 vol. CO2 is just not enough for this contraption. Maybe I'll crank it up to two.
I even tried to get some head on my ale using a shameful shortcut, but it didn't work (I used an empty plastic soda bottle, puched a few small holes, filled half-way and transferred to a glass. See photos. Colour is amazing.

With comparison with the bottle version, it is pretty much the same.

I will also ask forgiveness to the moderator, as I surely should have posted in the homebrewing section instead...
