Haha I'd love that to be a running joke. This last box was actually a trader off of facebook so not even aware of this thread

I had one like that from a guy who I did a pity trade with him (after he had a bad trading experience with someone else and I had a convo with him here on BA). He sent me a box of saison bottles wrapped only in plastic wrap. Not bubble wrap. Plastic wrap, like glad cling wrap type of plastic wrap, and nothing else, the bottles rolled around in the box. He used a lot of it, but it provided near zero protection, and it was surprisingly difficult to get it off the bottles, took about ten minutes to get all of it off. How it made it without breakage or discovery as beer is a mystery.

I always figure that UPS and FEDEX employees must have some interesting stories to tell. Not to go too off thread, but I was over at the UPS main distribution hub in Eugene one day, dropping off a box of olive oil and balsamic vinegar (otherwise known as beer). This was several years ago. The guy in front of me had a loaf of bread he'd baked for his sister, that he wanted to ship cross country to his sister in Atlanta. It wasn't wrapped in plastic or anything (he was carrying it in a large brown paper grocery bag). Anyway, he asked the clerk if they had a shipping box he could buy to ship the bread. I still remember the clerk giving this guy a really odd look. Finally, the clerk said yes we do, here are the choices. The customer grabbed this large, oversized box and dropped the loaf into it. He then asked the clerk if he could tape it up. Again, the clerk gave him this odd look, but didn't say a thing. He just pulled out a tape gun and taped up the box. The customer then asked about shipping options, and naturally went for the cheapest. The clerk pointed out that with the holidays and all, it might take over a week for the package to arrive. The customer said that was fine, his sister's birthday was still a couple weeks off. He then paid for shipping and the box and walked on out. I can still see the UPS clerk just staring out after the guy as he hopped into his car and took off.

Just got a whole box of macaroni in my box. Love it when that happens, especially the kids. Probably the third time with a whole box, have had several with loose mac.

Someone used diapers to wrap bottles in. They worked but have to imagine that's way more costly than bubble wrap haha

Could be how you got them as well. I wonder how many rounds those diapers have made. I know I reuse pretty much all the packaging I get in beer boxes other than bubble wrap that's been taped, and that's mostly because its next to impossible to separate the tap from the bubble wrap without shredding it.

Had a few people using towels to wrap bottles before. And they weren’t new towels. I imagine they were probably washed or whatever. But you could tell they were not new.

Will never forget the re-waxed TG drama on here from several years back as well. That was an interesting time in the trading game....

I had someone wrap a bottle in an old Washington Redskins jersey. I asked him if he wanted it back and he said no, but I had no use for it as it didn't fit. So naturally I paid it forward and wrapped a bottle for a different trade with it. The guy messaged me back saying that was the weirdest thing he'd ever gotten in a box.

Part of me is happy that we can all agree Washington jerseys have the same value as crumpled newspaper, stale pasta, and the cheapest possible bubble wrap.

I set up an IP trade as a stopover during a family road trip from MN to NY. We agreed to meet in a random parking lot fairly close to the highway so that I could quickly get on the road again after the trade. Once we pulled over, my wife started to worry that it was a dumb idea to be waiting in an isolated parking lot with a car full of belongings (and our kids) to meet up with a total stranger. But for once she was wrong and I was right...the trade was smooth as butter with an awesome BA.

Haha, no you were all good! And the Rev glass you gave me was her favorite for a while, until it became a dishwasher casualty.

One of my first trades on BA was a local in person trade with a guy who had been a member for a few more years than me with about 10 trades all with positive feedback. It was back in 2014 I think when the only brewery around me that had trade cache was Bellwoods. I made a bunch of trades with people who lived outside the city and couldn’t get to the brewpub to get what would sell out quite quickly. I don’t remember what bottles we exchanged, but the whole experience was weird.

He suggested we meet at a strip mall in the north west corner of the city. Sort of a bad part of town, but in Toronto, that means just not very nice rather than dangerous. When I arrived he was already there standing a little ways from his car. I got out of my car, and before I could say anything, he suggested we grab lunch at this little Honduran restaurant before exchanging the beers. I wasn’t in a rush, so figured why not. Then it started to get a little weird.

Before we went into the restaurant, he told me not to order a beer, and showed me a bottle of Blue Moon he had hidden in his jacket. At the table, he asked the waiter for a couple extra empty glasses. The waiter looked justifiably confused, but brought them anyway. My trade partner then spent the whole meal pouring a couple of sips into our glasses and telling me to drink it them quickly so as not to get caught.

He had no interest in chatting about beer. All he talked about was how he had no luck with women, and was really good at his job. I tried to speed things up as much as I could, being uncomfortable with the secret beer situation and the somewhat personal conversation. When we left the restaurant, I went to my car to grab his bottles. I walked over to his car and he had the trunk open and nothing in his hands. He then pointed to the trunk and said to take whatever I wanted from it. When I peered in, I was shocked to see what must have been 60 or 70 loose bottles and cans laid out in the trunk. The bottles we had agreed to were on top so I grabbed them. He then proceeded to compel me to grab a bunch more. I told him that it was ok, and I didn’t need to take anything else. But, he wouldn’t let me leave without taking more. He kept handing me bottles and cans to the point I couldn’t safely hold any more. I think I left with 10 extras. Nothing exciting, but 10 beers none the less.

It was bizarre. In a way it was a good trade because of how generous he was, I suppose, but man was it bizarre.

I was 100% sure you were going to say that he shoved you in the trunk when you looked in.
