My grandparents had a guava tree and I ate them until got sick when I was a kid. I don't think I've ever seen them sold retail . . . my guess is they don't travel/keep well, but maybe there are ways.

Come to Miami and have some guava pastries. You've never tasted anything like it, I promise.

We've already had a near castration in a BIF, to the extent that @Roy_Hobbs felt compelled to send me a major league-strength cup to protect my protectables whilst opening the boxes he sent my way.

Moist and Meaty is going 8 steps beyond castration and into "slasher movie" territory.

And I don't think you want this group getting creative with a combination of world-class beers moving all around the country and slasher movies. IJS.

LMAO, literally got introduced to guava by my wife's Cuban grandmother. It was the first time I'd ever had it.

    She swears by Vicky's.

Nice car! Was the trunk big enough to hold that load? Like the way you roll!

Might be a little late, the door has been opened and the bar has been set.

I'll definitely keep an eye out next time I'm in the produce section, but as @JayORear indicates it may not be that easy. I love trying new fruits, so maybe that's the reason it's escaped me thus far.
Was that out in California? I honestly don't even really know where they're native to. Maybe I can find some frozen in the mean time.
I'm definitely into that idea. We have an two empenada shops in my neighborhood, but they rarely do sweet varieties. Are the Miami pastries similar, or are we talking something else entirely? Either way, sign me up.

I drank this one for @Whyteboar since he hasn't seen this awesome new glass that @jdell15 sent my way. When I saw this beer from @Dimidiata I knew what had to be done. Moonage Daydream by Cellarmaker poured a lot hazier than I'd have expected for a 5.5% pale ale with a thick creamy head. Aroma was unmistakable peach/peach rings, and immediately made me think Galaxy. Looking up the description showed that it's an all Galaxy pale made with JW Lee's yeast. The taste followed the aroma with big juicy flavors. Very soft mouthfeel and ridiculously crushable at this abv. Galaxy seemed so hit or miss for some time, but I've had a few lately that have renewed my love of this hop variety. Thanks, Christine, this is great.

Cuban pastries are very flaky - not too dissimilar to an empanada in the darkness of the flour, but more layered and flaky. I've had some scones that are similar, but still too doughy. The guava ones are stuffed, so it's like a stuffed, flaky jelly doughnut. It's so hard to describe (I'm not a baker!).

They have cream cheese pastries as well, which are of course delightful.

Sounds fantastic. One of my favorite things about my trip to Leeds/Manchester in 2019 was the pastie shops at the train stations. They were mostly savory with some sweet versions, but had that flaky quality you're talking about. I got one for just about every train ride. Oh, you can also buy cans of Cloudwater on the trains in Yorkshire.

Try a Hispanic grocery - might have better luck.

Now I know what to put in for your food item... but really, grab a can of Kern's Guava Nectar. That will at least give you the essence of the fruit.

Sweet. Thanks, now I have to find one. But finding both the glass and that beer seems to be a long shot, that’s quite the confluence of Bowie!

The legend @jdell15 made this himself, and it's great quality. Such incredible detail in the face. You have to be a little careful in washing, but I can't thank him enough(but I can try).

Alright, made it through that big ol' box from @Mbgreg - and what a selection of beers! Gonna get plenty of SC ticks as well as a few other states.

    First, the bottles:

    Westbrook Mexican Coffee Cake
    Westbrook Gates of S'Mordor
    Westbrook BA 9th Anniversary
Fonta Flora Carolina Rhythm wild ale (paw paw fruit and strawberries ?!)

Real curious about that 9th Anniversary stout from Westbrook - peanut butter, chocolate, and vanilla is a great combo when done right.

    And now the cans:

Edmund's Oast Plasma Gun wc ipa
    Edmund's Oast Foresworn ipa
Resident Culture Juice Runs the Game hazy dipa
Fonta Flora Unusual Frequency (beta) hazy dipa collab with The Veil
    Westbrook Strawberry Shake ipa
Westbrook Rinse/Repeat Idaho 7 and Cashmere hazy ipa
    Westbrook Low and Slow doppelbock
Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Volume 16 hazy dipa

Some really awesome ipas in here, and thanks for the doppelbock! This was incredibly generous, Mark. Thank you so much!

Now to repair the porch while I try to figure out who the heck my sender is...

I've sampled some of the Steel Reserve Alloy Series out of a teku, and I can safely say it's a surprisingly enjoyable sensory experience. I also drank Cantillon out of a shoe that night - Cantillon Oude Shoes as it were - though, so consider the source.

Some of you may remember my recent lamentations about an exceedingly full can shelf in my fridge. While that has slowly improved - late nights catching up on both acquisitions and gifts have helped - it would be hilariously misguided to say I was running low on beer.

Therefore, imagine my surprise upon returning home this afternoon to find not one, but two boxes awaiting me. Having just returned from Costco and assorted other errands - perhaps including the acquisition of ammunition for an impending salvo - my hands were a tad full. Kudos to my postal carrier for having the wherewithal to leave them where I wouldn't trip and break my neck.

After putting away my year's supply of paper towels, month's supply of LaCroix, and week's supply of cheese (if it lasts that long - spoiler alert: it won't), I turned my attention to more important matters.

First, a box I was expecting:
Having guessed that @Ozzylizard was my sender via process of elimination - while this box was already en route - I knew it was coming, but not precisely what to expect. And hot damn. I just happened to grab the Revolution can first, and after a couple hours of dealing with some of humanity's finest in a retail setting, it was rather tempting to just pop the top and guzzle it right then and there. But I'm a man of sophistication and resisted the urge. The Sahti definitely has me intrigued - and will be making an appearance in this weekend's NBW thread per his recommendation to drink it first - but I'm stoked to dig into all of these Brewery Vivant cans. It's a name I've heard for years, so I'm thrilled to try a variety of styles from them. Thanks so much for the selection!

And then, the more perplexing box. Having already been ninja'd once - before the damn BIF even began - I wasn't expecting it again so soon:
The zip code on the label had my spidey senses tingling, and the selection therein confirmed it - @BBThunderbolt had struck with reckless abandon, working in the dead of night to spread fermented goodness. I've always had a soft spot for PNW IPAs but my connections to PDX run deeper than Seattle - both travel and friends who live there - so I've never managed to try Bodhizafa. Quite looking forward to trying these Boundary Bay beers, Fremont is always a welcome sight, and I've been hearing a lot about this Ecliptic/Wayfinder cold IPA. Both that and the dessert baltic porter have me mighty intrigued. Thank you so much for the rad box! As with the first box, something here will make an appearance in this weekend's NBW thread. I'm quite open to suggestion on what to open first, else I'll channel my inner Mitchell and Webb and just reach into the chiller and grab something at hand. It's the continental way, isn't it?
